I've been setting aside a dedicated Porsche Fund for years now to replace a 914 I had for 15 years that was lost to an engine fire back in 2005.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My comment history here shows I've been consumed with the madness for quite a while now. Life only recently let me pull the trigger.

POST 5Original post

A 21 year old mistress is probably easier on the head. The 996 is easier on the wallet.

POST 6Original post

Congratulations! These are such great machines. There is no way to drive this car and not smile! Welcome to the madness. And the slippery slope.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been setting aside a dedicated Porsche Fund for years now to replace a 914 I had for 15 years that was lost to an engine fire back in 2005. After years of watching the market and determining I wanted a 997.2 PDK, I ended up learning about the early build MY99s and deciding that spending only 30% of my budget on acquisition left me some manageable wiggle room for what I was getting into. It's a 6/98 build, cab (a must) and a tip (wife), and OMG have these been few and far between. I'm happy to find a blue one, but originally I wasn't thrilled about the blue/grey interior. But after a four hour drive back at night, I really do like how the interior 'disappeared' and it was all road and the warm glow of the dash. Drove it straight to Fisher in IL for all the gory details of what I've actually gotten myself into.

My wife, in the chase vehicle for the drive home, asked me after a couple hours on the road if I bonded with it yet. I told her I was bonded with it after three blocks.

Fischers is a great shop. Took my 2004 C4s Cabrio to him for replacing the air conditioning condensers and getting the head liner repaired. This forum is great for advice on what you can fix on your own to what to expect from a good Indy.

Hmmm. Good idea. The mistress, with her small hands, could probably change that Air / Oil separator easier than me.

Welcome Word of caution: Buying and installing the Porsche Umbrella that goes in the passenger side door sill. You may hear from members on here they have Dyno runs showing 5 HP gain at 1K over Redline It is not true, it is only 3HP You have a nice car, there are some really nice folks on this 996 forum ________________________

I just got my post purchase inspection report from Rick an hour ago. I might just have scored a great deal! A lot of smaller issues, of course, but nothing major. Huge sigh of relief.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I just learned it was a Canadian market build. I'll learn to live with the KPH dial.

POST 20Original post

Rick is a great guy. Back almost 20 years ago, my 88 Carrera suffered from a blown clutch on the last lap or the last turn of the last run of the PCA DE track day at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. It was probably my fault, as I wanted to save time by downshifting into 2nd gear from 4th, but not letting the clutch out so I didnt money shift. Well, that was not smart because the clutch probably spun past 9,000 RPM and the rubber center that was close to 20 years old gave out. I couldnt shift in or out of any gear, but Rick took the car out for a spin and got it working well enough to enable suiting so I could get back home. Anyway, since you are local, would be good to meet up. Theres a 996 Revival group on Discord and I usually attend the Oak Park Cars and Coffee events select Sundays 8:30-10:30am in case you can make it. Next one is Sep 11th.

Congrats! After waiting a couple years, I got my first about 5 months ago. '99 triple black cab

POST 22Original post

I have the same spec. My car has heated seats and LSD, stock sound system, full leather, parking assist (the rear bumper has large, protruding parking sensors on it), 18 wheels, thats about it. The 99s are great - no glovebox, no cup holders, and a 993 steering wheel (if its 4-spoke).
