Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Rtv or similar would be even more tedious to clean off prior to re-sealing should the need arise.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Having finally traced my interior leak in my 996 to the door panels. The membrane goop has come loose, PO installed new Kicker speakers in the door and probably made a few tears in that membrane as well. I'd like to apply new sealant and suspect that my household doors and windows silicone might not do the trick. I was thinkin more along the lines of Permaflex RTV sealant perhaps? Thoughts? Also I know that the exterior door seals are NOT 100% waterproof and that the excess water is meant to run down the hollow and out the drain holes, but mine seem to allow a tremendous amount of water regardless. Is this a sign of tired and old window seals?

I used butyle string like this https://www.adezif.com/preformed-butyl-sealant Rtv or similar would be even more tedious to clean off prior to re-sealing should the need arise. I don't know if the glue that was used originally is avaliable separately as I don't know what it is.
