Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. I've searched the forum for oil pressure issues but want to confirm my thoughts. I have a 2004C4s, 6sp, w/ 93,000. All maintenance up to date - IMS, RMS, AOS, oil cooler, coil packs, etc. During normal driving yesterday, my oil pressure dropped to zero, like, immediate drop and CEL light illuminated. And, just as quickly, it bounced back to normal. It did this a few times over the course of about 5 min/a few miles until I got home. It occurred during normal driving, <4000 RPMs, about 185 degrees, no other indications. Oil level is fine, it was changed about 1000 miles ago. I am thinking that the oil pressure/sensor is going out. Any other thoughts before I order one? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Yes sending unit is the first thing to check. Either it or the connection to it is bad.

POST 3Original post

What he said /\/\. I suggest using the OEM Porsche one if you end up replacing it. I purchased one that wasn't and it started to act up 7 months later and showing low oil pressure readings.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks gents, much appreciated. Looks like I have my project for this weekend tee'd up.

POST 5Original post

Should take you very little time. 30 minute job at the very most. Having a 19mm (i think) crows foot will help a lot! Clean off the connectors best you can.

19mm crows foot is correct and makes the job simple. It's certainly a heart stopping failure!

POST 7Original post

I have had this same issue and I found the problem to be a loose connection at the sending unit. I used a long handled pair of needle nose pliers to tighten up the connector that plugs onto the sending unfit. Solved the problem for the past 3 years.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This was my initial fix. I'll report back in a few months, hopefully with a cheap success story.

POST 9Original post

Hope the tightened connectors work for you. That fix lasted a week or two with my car. I ended up replacing the sensor. Problem solved.
