Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just picked up a 2002 Carrera with 136,000 miles on it. One owner, and car was dealer maintained since new. Has LN IMS bearing installed. Check engine light came on a few days after purchase.
Here's an image of the codes pulled up on my Durametric
I can hear a SAI pump whine when I first start the engine. It runs great and has good power through the rev range, however there's a very slight hesitation somewhere around 4,000rpm...maybe at the point where the Variocam actuators are supposed to work? Also the idle moves around a little bit (800-1100rp1) when first coming off from revving it, then settles in around 900.
I wouldn't think the SAI and Camshaft errors are related, but they showed up at the same time...and on both banks! Where should I start to diagnose it?
I would look at vacuum lines and switches for the SAI fail. I don't know how the camshaft errors could be related but it seems very unlikely they are not somehow related
Vacuum test fully warmed up shows a steady 4.5 inches of H2O at idle. I used the Durametric to test the SAI pump. It had a slight squeak to it for a couple seconds but appeared to run fine. What's the next step to diagnose?
Does anyone else know how the SAI and cam errors could be related?
When you have multiple CELs, you should try to fix the simple ones first and see if it affects others. In this case, the SAI fault is easier to fix than the cam shaft errors. A smoke test at the intake ports will likely reveal what vacuum line is leaking or broken for the SAI not to work. Sometimes, the vacuum cannister can also develop a leak. Fix that, clear the codes, and drive to see if the cam errors come back.
