When they ran their GT3 front spoiler lip deal for $200 each, I bought one.

Demons 3 piece splitter may be a better option so you can replace the piece that's broken.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys I want to add a front spoiler/lip to my stock bumper . Goal is to add to the looks of the car and gain some front down force or performance . I am planning on adding a " Singer " style rear duck spoiler to the OEM engine lid spoiler . Not looking for anything over the top or gaudy , just something simple and clean that will compliment the stock looks.
Have done some internet searches and found items from KBD/GT3TEK and others . Would like to hear your thoughts and any pics would be appreciated .
Joe Toth via Demonspeed makes a C2 lip:

Also I've seen several types of Singer type wings... which one in specific are you looking to do? The 996 Ducktail gang is getting bigger so I'm curious to see what you consider over the top or gaudy. Getty makes a simple fiberglass ducktail but if you're looking to just install a ducktail where the powered wing goes, I think you might be disappointed to see one in person.
I have a Joe Toth ducktail spoiler on my 986S that is very similar to the Singer style I posted . In my opinion very understated and compliments the OEM styling . Joe actually responded to my post on the 986 forum years ago asking for a small duck for the 986 . That turned into a group buy after Joe came up with the design .
Vetfever, nor certain if you are joking or not. If you are serious, you are unfortunately in the wrong game. It's going to cost you whether you like it or not. It's a Porsche.
But...
Joe Toth (Demon) makes some great aftermarket parts for our 996 at attractive prices. Key is to take your time and make sure that whatever you are buying is truly what you want. Not to mention, from time to time things go on sale. Just be ready to jump on if/when they do.
Most importantly, take care of your engine first for durability. The shiny, pretty stuff can wait. Last thing you want is a really pretty paperweight sitting in the garage because you didn't take care of the engine.
Thanks for the advice GC996 - truly appreciated. Ive always been a careful spender with the DNA of an immigrant son of people who started with nothing.
I think its working, 7 corvettes and 3 911s later. Ive always personalized my cars, and as you suggested, Ill take my time with early focus on things mechanical of which my recently acquired 2001 does need. First oil change revealed no metal after dragging a strong magnet through the used oil. Filter paper was also clean, and oil sample sent in for analysis. She will go to my local indie for a PPI, and well come up with a to- do list.
In the interim Ill research and benefit from the experience and wisdom of those here. Ill have a look at the demon stuff, again thank you.
Nothing wrong with being a thrifty shopper . Porsche ownership can exist within a budget . Shopping various websites for new and used parts is just one example . Doing work yourself is another . I have been retired coming up on 5 years and have a stable of two Porsche's. All done with play money never touching retirement savings . Of course everyone has a different situation . There is no single right or wrong way to ownership or maintenance .
Absolutely.
Your gonna have to spend money on the 996 on parts anyway, not to mention service if you aren't a wrencher. Sure makes sense to find deals on parts to save a couple of bucks that you can use on an extra part or procedure if you can.
As an example, Demon runs quantity deals from time to time. When they ran their GT3 front spoiler lip deal for $200 each, I bought one.
Another example is the RPM ducktail. Nicest ducktail on the market. Carbon fiber and light as hell. But not cheap. USD is rising against the pound. We are getting close to it being on sale big time as it pertains to currencies...
One of the biggest lessons that I learned over the past 20 years of 996 ownership is that you can also save quite a bit of money with used parts that have a long life. Brakes, seats, wheels, exhaust, body parts, etc.
Key is to be in the various networks to see it or hear about it. You will know if it's a deal and if you should pull the trigger or not.
But yeah, it pays to be smart with when and how you spend money on any sports car. But make no bones about it, they will cost you money.
Yeah, if you look at the various picture threads here on RL, you will see what some of the guys have done with their 996.1 front bumpers. Years ago you could get the aero front lip from the factory for cheap. They stopped making them and Demon stepped up to make them. I do believe they have an even wider set of choices today. It is a much cheaper option than a new aero bumper and paint job.
I assume the Demon Speed front lip spoiler listed above is made of fiberglass ? Any issues with cracking ? It's in a vulnerable location and I am wondering if a polyurethane or similar " softer " material is a better choice ? Just trying to get smarter on this .
Good question. I have one sitting in my basement. I'll pull it out and see if I can get some close up pictures. You gotta figure that you will destroy a few on driveways over time. Mine is the GT3 version and I understand that the GT3 cup version lip is longer and hangs down lower, but is more flexible. Haven't seen it to confirm.
Give Demon a call. They have been very helpful.
I'll get a couple of pictures out tonight.
The Demon "cup" lips r the splitters that r made similar to the porsche specs. They r a pretty flexible material but they fit best on a mk2 aero bumper. This is mine in a mk1 bumper. New holes have to be drilled and u need to flex it a little for the eaery bumper. They have 2 versions available, a track version and ine with a better finish but its less flexible and it cost a little more.
Not sure how this version would work on a stock bumper.
De jeeper your spoiler lip looks like it mostly installs under the front bumper . The Speed Demon in the link above looks like it installs mostly in front of the bumper if that makes sense . I have basically the same setup as yours on my 986S so I am familiar with the GT3 style lip .
This Better Bodies/GT3TEK style spoiler is another that mostly installs in front of the bumper . I am just using this for conversation . I do like the fact it is fairly flexible , that should make it last longer .

Here is the Demon GT3 front spoiler. Its fiberglass and well made. Very light and if you run it against anything it will most likely shatter.

I was tring to point out that difference between the 2 styles since GC996 mentioned the gt3 or cup style and wanted u to understand the differences. Sounds like u r aware.
GC996 thanks for the pics . For my driveway there is no way a fiberglass spoiler lip would last . My 986S with GT3 front bumper and spoiler lip drags slightly as I transition to the road. So no way fiberglass or carbon fiber would last long . My search continues . Thanks to everyone that has chimed in . 👍
I haven't put it on yet but will. My understanding is they are designed to break and you just put a new one on. They are cheap in cost. I'll probably pick up another couple. But yeah, a rubber one of the same size would be perfect. Demons 3 piece splitter may be a better option so you can replace the piece that's broken.
Yes...
Nicest damn ducktail on the planet!
I want one but don't think I will catch it this dollar rally against the pound, maybe the next one. Still got alot more to do with engine and suspension as I finish my 10 year refresh. Oil cooling kit and UIDS next, then suspension refresh. Pretty stuff will have to wait. But I will get one!
Not that it maters but I used thick clear vinyl on the bottom of my lips when I had the Z... it was loooooow and I only destroyed one after hitting a milk crate on the highway. The vinyl would take the brunt of the damage in regard to scrapes.
I went with the Better Bodies kit, love it. Just scraped the bottom of chin the other day (as expected) and no issues. Had the whole front bumper and spoiler PPF'd and it is scraped underneath but looks fine
Today I took the first step towards aero mods , I ordered the Singer style ducktail I listed earlier . I should have it by the 25th of this month . Still deciding on a front spoiler lip .
