Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone knows an independant mechanic able to program a 996 FOB Key in L.A.? Dealer wants to charge $300 for the key and $320.00 to program it . Thank you

POST 2Original post

so when I did this for a 997 a long time ago only a dealer COULD do it as the codes come via PIWIS from Porsche. Maybe things changed since... it was a few years ago.

POST 3Original post

No indy will be able to do it unless they have access to Porsche PIWIS and know how to program keys into the immobilizer. Many threads on here about this topic. Make sure any key you buy has the alarm code key tag. It really is best to go thru the Porsche dealer. This is highly specialized work and it can go wrong.

POST 4Original post

Tony Callas at Callas Rennsport in Torrance has PIWIS - this I know firsthand. Call them and ask if they are able to do this for you. https://www.callasrennsport.com/

POST 5Original post

You'll need two things... the unique code number that comes with your new key, and the specific code for your car (technically only Porsche can access this). "Good indys" have "friends" or access to the Porsche database... But without both, no new key can be adapted to any car.... no matter what anyone says...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would like to thank the Rennlisters who answered me. I understand now the main issue which is the IPAS Code that only a Porsche dealer can get as it is specific for each car.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
