Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use same kind of thing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean crack' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I'm using these and they are excellent at removing sealant.

You're going to really want to make sure you clean off the old sealant well before you put the new sealant on, or you'll be leaking out of the gasket of your new pan.

I have that exact tool as well, but someone recommended I try the magic eraser once for this specific job since the oil pan is a loose part and can be cleaned afterward and I'm telling you I was done in like 60 seconds.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Help! I am 900 miles from home and accidentally drove off a curb and cracked my oil pan on the 2002 C4S. In western Montana and no one knows what a Porsche is.
Does anyone have one to sell with express shipping?
Also, is there any tips on replacing it? I heard there is no gasket, just a sealant. Any thing I need to know?
Thanks for any help!
Drain the oil, remove the sump cover and clean the crack using brake or carb cleaner. Clean outside of the crack too.
Use JB weld to fill the crack both on inside and outside. Buy a seeve and cut a patch out to reinforce the JB Weld.
Refit sump cover using your favorite sealant, fit drain plug and refill with oil and off you go.
Crack is about 1 inch overall, kind of more of a puncture hole. Due to the semi dry sump system, I was able to run for quite a long time without losing any oil pressure. Once I stopped though, it ran out in a steady stream.
I just ordered a new one from Suncoast with expedited shipping. However, they are saying at least 2 to 3 days for processing, and then maybe supply chain delays after that. Hope Im not stuck here too long, but it is a beautiful place!
Jake Raby says that you can run the engine with the drain plug out and nothing comes out until you shut off the engine. The reason I asked about the crack is that picture shows that you may be able to put some JB weld on the sump plate from the outside without having to remove the sump plate.
I have one off of my spare engine. I can ship tomorrow, but I am in NJ. I may even have a quarter tube of Drei Bond I can include. Not sure how much to ask for it and how much overnight shipping will be.
Thanks Evo. Any recommendations on installation after applying a thin layer of sealant? Snug bolts, let cure a few hours, then torque, or torque right away?
You're going to really want to make sure you clean off the old sealant well before you put the new sealant on, or you'll be leaking out of the gasket of your new pan. Goo gone and a magic eraser will make short work of the old sealant. The magic erasers are kind of a pain in the **** because they break apart as you use them but they work really quickly, and really well. Just be careful as you're working on the engine block not to get little pieces of magic eraser stuck in the bolt holes, hah.
I'm using these and they are excellent at removing sealant. They are hard enough but being plastic they don't scratch aluminium etc at all.

Brass is higher on the hardness scale than aluminum. However aluminum alloys can change that relationship so that the alloy is as hard or even harder. In short: be careful when using brass brushes on aluminum.
yea, I didn't find any aluminum scoring or any damage whatsoever to the machined surface, but if you are really concerned, a plastic brush may work also.
I have that exact tool as well, but someone recommended I try the magic eraser once for this specific job since the oil pan is a loose part and can be cleaned afterward and I'm telling you I was done in like 60 seconds. I'm not sure how much effect the goo gone had because I didn't try a magic eraser and water. A mechanic had recommended to me specifically the goo gone + eraser combo but warned to never do it if there was any risk of the pieces of sponge breaking off and falling into something. 10/10 would
