Thanks, loose wires are no fun but i might pair that with replacing the slowish regulator on that side.

Last Friday I took the car out for a nice run and the passenger side mirror kept going back and forth from the driving position to the reverse setting while I was driving.

Over the weekend the issue came and went and I toyed with different combinations of mirror L/R selector and using the memory 1 button to reset.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings, I am driving my 996 much less now I have a baby to bring around and storing it in a downtown parking deck. When he turns two he will get a car seat next to his sister but for now, driving will be intermittent. Last Friday I took the car out for a nice run and the passenger side mirror kept going back and forth from the driving position to the reverse setting while I was driving. It was distracting at the least and dangerous. Over the weekend the issue came and went and I toyed with different combinations of mirror L/R selector and using the memory 1 button to reset. I even held the memory 1 down to hold the position. When released the mirror started to cycle back and forth again. Very odd. Any guidance is appreciated. No other issues, lights, etc. many thanks.

Right after I posted I reread and thought the phrasing was funny enough that someone would catch it.
Not the same failure mode, but my "reverse" mirror intermittently stopped moving when the reverse switch on top of the tranny went out. See if your reverse lights are working. The switch is a generic part and can be bought on Amazon and switching it out is a piece of cake, if you feel like throwing a part at it.
i noticed that shifting gears would trigger the movement of the mirror in one direction or another. It would also move during regular driving but a shift would cause it to switch directions some of the time. Taking it on a nice country road drive this weekend (Rt 5 from Richmond Va to Williamsburg) so it will be interesting to monitor along the way.
That would be a "hilarious failure mode" !! Your reverse lights would be blinking OFF and ON while you were driving...notice any STRANGE looks from passing drivers???
