I had a rear wheel bearing replace a few months ago and the dealer was actually cheaper than the recommended shops I checked on so it does pay to shop around.

Last I checked their price for an oil change was outrageous at $200 when I could get the same thing in California for under $100.

I'll double check tomorrow to see if they have the window sticker or a shot of the option list from the trunk.

I have a tentative offer on the car pending outcome of the PPI and they've agreed to replace a missing key and have a Porsche certified technician repair any mechanical defects the PPI uncovers.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm still doing a bit of research on it but it did see the servicing dealerships in Greenville, SC and Portland, OR for service and warranty work annually. Nothing major was done to the car though it did have some PDI work done prior to the initial sale.
I have a tentative offer on the car pending outcome of the PPI and they've agreed to replace a missing key and have a Porsche certified technician repair any mechanical defects the PPI uncovers.
Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
The other question is then to ship it to Indiana or take the 3 days and drive it back? I'm leaning to the shipping via enclosed carrier.
EDIT: The deal's done. Just need the PPI at this point.
Looks good! I hope the PPI provides you with the good news you hope for.
My vote is to fly to the car and drive it back. You'll really bond with the car and come away with a deep appreciation of just how fine a road car these cars are.
If you are going to drive the car back home before you leave the dealer's lot with the car and head out on the road be sure the spare tire is present and properly inflated, that the tool kit is complete, and the locking lug bolt socket fits *all* locking lug bolts!
Then keep the rubber side done and the shiny side up.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Tom - small world! First the Houston thing, now this! Believe it or not, I bought my GT3 from Portland! I used Marque Motors in Portland for the PPI on my GT3. Their number is [phone removed]. Ask for Kurt. [edit: here is the website:

Thanks again for all the help on the other deal. I was willing to go forward and had been working with the sales mgr but the big boss moved the car from under him when he didn't get it done fast enough. Serves him right
I stumbled on this one about 2 hours later (it didn't even have the pictures up on Autotrader yet) and might have been able to do a bit better on the price but it was equipped very nicely - perhaps a bit too much CF for my taste - but I shouldn't need to do anything to the car to make it right. I also need to give props to the local Indy dealer service department as Jeremy has been more than gracious in providing background info on a number of cars that I was investigating. Same goes for Neil in finance in answering questions on aftermarket warranties - which I now need to follow up on again.
I've sent off an email regarding the PPI so I could possibly have the car next weekend if there's nothing found that needs fixing and I decide to do the fly/drive thing.
Nah, I think it really is Cobalt. Just crappy fluorescent lighting.
I'd be happy with Midnight but the photo doesn't look dark enough and the color really doesn't seem right for Lapis. I'll double check tomorrow to see if they have the window sticker or a shot of the option list from the trunk.
I bet you it is Lapis. I had a Midnight and it is not dark enough. Here is a Cobalt car. It is light like the BMW Estoril blues.
Did you get any interior pictures?
Tom, congrats on the find and I hope everything works out on the PPI. I will echo the comments on the fly out and drive back scenario. I purchased my C4S from a dealer in San Diego, flew out with my daughter and then drove back. Great chance to get comfortable with the car.
I've already asked about the window sticker or a photo of the option codes from the trunk. I'll need to wait 4 or 5 more hours for a reply.
HMM: Not quite sure why the post with the attached pictures disappeared...
Congrats on the car. I'm in the same boat as I just purchased a 2004 996 AE. I chose to have mine shipped from Texas to Indy. I didn't want to drive my car back that long of a distance without fully servicing it first. I read a horror story where someone bought an NSX and the day he got it, destroyed the engine. He was supposed to get it serviced later that day.
Tom Wood is offering Easy Care and Fidelity Audi Extended Warranty. Fidelity is cheaper and has decent reviews, so I'm probably going to go with that unless anyone here tells me otherwise.
I'd take the 3 days off and go.
Now you HAVE to sign up for the DE at Putnam Park with the CIR PCA 5/22 and 5/23!
Looking forward to seeing your car sometime!
I just got updated rates for Fidelity as the EasyCare rates went up by quite a bit recently. For this specific car, a 6/60 Power Train coverage w/$100 deductible is $2991. Gold coverage is $3337 and Platinum is just over $4K. The 5/60 numbers are about $100 less. I didn't ask about 4/48 or similar as I am planning on keeping it longer than that. Mileage is a big killer on these numbers as the '03 I was looking at with 47K on it couldn't get longer coverage terms.
As far as service is concerned I would do all the stuff necessary to keep the warranty intact. However I would likely do intermediate oil changes myself as I tend to change oil every 7500 miles on my Boxster. Last I checked their price for an oil change was outrageous at $200 when I could get the same thing in California for under $100. For the extra $100 I'll get a little dirty. I had a rear wheel bearing replace a few months ago and the dealer was actually cheaper than the recommended shops I checked on so it does pay to shop around. It's sort of like Costco, just because it's there doesn't mean you can't find it elsewhere at a better price so be sure to shop around.
Sounds odd, huh?
The deal is actually contingent on the results of the PPI. The price won't adjust but they will fix any mechanical defects and supply the missing 2nd key.
Tom-
Fingers crossed that the PPI goes well. It looks like a great car. I'd say take the road trip home. When I got my C4S, my wife and I flew down to Cleveland to get it and had a blast driving it home to Chicagoland. We met the tech at the dealership that performed the PPI and got some great tips/advise from him and we even stopped for lunch at a restaurant that Guy Fieri featured on Diners Drive-in and Dives called Melt for some awesome sandwiches. It allowed us to experience the car in true GT style. My wife fell in love with how the car ate up the miles and was so comfortable for a trip--plus it got 26 mpg.
Good luck!
To put an end to all the speculation on the color... the salesman took a look at the option sticker and said it's... drum roll please...
L39C - Which should officially make it Midnight Blue Metallic.
Some models like my 1999 the color isn't on the options sticker but located on the trunk wall. Open the trunk ans the drivers side (left hand drive) the wall has the color code sticker. Just pull back the padding for a look.
Nice car no matter what. Enjoy the cruising.
Just got the results of the PPI from Marque Motors and it passed with flying colors. The only things noted were the handbrake needs some minor adjusting and a brake fluid flush wouldn't hurt. I'll see if I can convince the dealership to do those prior to delivery but they were actually listed as OK on the report with added comments.
At the moment I'm planning to fly on Thursday and head back on a northerly route through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and finally, Indiana.
Sounds great Tom, nothing like a long trip to get to know your new Porsche ride. Glad the PPI results went well, sounds like a perfect purchase for you.
