Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

had my tranny dropped for an ims upgrade. Also did the tranny oil. now my shift is a little mushy going into R .. 1 and 3. Almost like rhey are gonna fall out.Other gears are fine. feels like they dont knotch in place like they did before. Anyone see this before? I called my shop after i got home and said it should be like that after new oil. Doesnt feel right to me. Think they botched the re connect of the cables to the tranny? Are they even adjustsble? Or is the only adjustment done just below the shift lever? Should it be adjusted using the Shift adjustment tool? That area wasnt touched. Thy def didnt take apart the console. shifting was normal prior to this work being done. Thanks all

POST 2Original post

its the cables either where they clip into the trans or under the center consol. Its common for them to pop out under the car and a zip tie fixes it. Take it back of slide under your car 4 a look.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16908605

is their any adjustment under the car? Or do they just pop into place? Thanks!

POST 4Original post

No the adjustment is under the center consol. Do a search for sloppy shifter or similar and im sure u will find a thred with a pic of the issue. Like i said its very common for the retainer clips to release.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16908666

Everything looks good and secure to me. Maybe the underconsole needs adjustment after the work? Odd since those adjustments werent touched.

POST 6Original post

I could be wrong, but from the picture, is that top (upper) grommet in the bracket correctly? Looks to me like the grommet slot is off.

POST 7Original post

Here's a good thread with some close up pictures https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...pics-help.html

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16908974

seems like that plastic piece /clip is holding it in place. I guess i could add another zip tie on top and see. thanks for the link!

POST 9Original post

Compared to the bottom one, looks like the top one isn't quite right. Perhaps the metal circlip goldish in color is on the backside of the bracket when it should be on the opposite side like the bottom one? You can see a faint ring around the top one that's cleaner indicating that something may have previously occupied that area and kept it a little cleaner.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 16908844

Is the lower shift arm bent inwards a bit? I can't remember if it was supposed to be that way or it should be flat with the upper shift ball.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16909246

do you know if the top lever controls Certain gears vs lower lever? Seems like r 1 3 5 have the issue while 2 4 6 are fine.

POST 12Original post

Have someone sit in the car and move the shifter r 1 3 5 and you see which lever moves. That may tell a lot.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16909579

I called the shop and they said bring it by.. we shall see! He said its likely in the console adjustment. Which is odd. Since they didnt touch that durijg the ims job.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 16909583

Maybe they forgot to disconnect the shifter cables when lowering the transmission and they got tweaked.

POST 15Original post

Mine had the same issue. All that was necessary was to adjust the cables at the shifter. Very easy.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found the problem. The right shifter cable clip is broken. Causing the problem. This wasnt an issue before. 2 options. Try to figure out a way to fix the exitheng clip so it holds under load. Ziptie didnt work. or Order new shifter cables. 420$ plus labour. not really fair since this wasnt an issue before. Im thinking when they disconnected the cables from the tranny..they pulled on one cable causing the clip to break. Plus part wont be able to arrive till next week anyways. any ideas? Im thinking to bring the car home for the weekend and try to figure something out. Pic attached. I found online of the broken clip. **RED ARROW.

POST 17Original post

Is it the cable or the shifter assembly? Your arrow looks like it's pointing to the shifter. If it's the assembly you should just upgrade to a 997, 997 short shift or numeric shifter and install it yourself.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16912545

The black plastic piece thats part of the cable. Same issue. You Tube

POST 19Original post

The cable got snagged when they were dropping the transmission. Can you use some hose clamps to secure it until the cable is replace? Also, the lessen the cost, look for a good used one. Should be plenty around.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16913010

must of been. Ofcourse they arnt taking blame. Gonna play with it and see.

POST 21Original post

I have a set of used cables and a 996 shifter with an Agency Power shirt shift kit thats left over from swapping to Numeric equipment. If u r are interested in any of it send me a pm.

POST 22Original post

Gorilla glue might be a good temporary solution. Then zip tie that plastic piece where it belongs.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16913179

This clamp didnt hold. Gonna try somesort of bracket to hold in place. Last option is glue then clamp

POST 24Original post

I'd put a couple small sheet metal screws through the broken part into the main part to hold the broken part in place.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16913776

thought about that but wasn't sure if it would damage something in the main part.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16913179

used gorilla glue very little and some gorilla tape and hose clamp. Put on 50km this morning. No popping out!! A couple more days driving then ill put the console back in.
