Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It involves removing the heater core, grinding out a pivot point, then removing one of the internal flaps and replacing the foam stuff with something else.

I can't wait for winter so I can use the heater...for the 4 days that it is below 50 degrees down here.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Oh my...this has been discussed over and over. There are flaps in the HVAC box under the dash. The flaps are covered with a foam like material. After 20 years, the foam degrades and comes shooting out the vents. So what to do? Most people pull out the shop vac, turn the HVAC system fan on high and start sucking up the foam and pulling pieces out of the vents with tweezers. After doing this several times over, the foam pieces stop blowing out of the vents because it has all come off the internal flaps. This is where I am. No more foam pieces coming out of the vents, and for the most part I have not noticed any difference in the operation of the HVAC system. But others have attempted repairs. It involves removing the heater core, grinding out a pivot point, then removing one of the internal flaps and replacing the foam stuff with something else. The other alternative is to remove the entire dashboard, remove the HVAC system "box" from under the dashboard, replace it, and wait another 20 years for the foam pieces internal to the box to degrade and come blowing out of the vents.
I suppose there's a first time for all of us new guys for the usual symptoms of failure. I don't have much luck with search, though I will use it and don't care about the abuse for not knowing the answer. I have a good sense of humor anyway. Latest, though minor in the scheme of things is the disappearing headlight washer covers.
That's why the admins made a special "sticky" thread to goes over the most common issues with these cars.... it's at the top.

I finally fixed this on my car about a month ago.
It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be.
Finally the foam has stopped coming out.
Cold air when and where I want it.
I can't wait for winter so I can use the heater...for the 4 days that it is below 50 degrees down here.
