I wrapped the prongs with teflon tape to help tighten the fit.

Suggestion

If one uses the proper screws to mount the plastic "Porsche" backing plate the screws go through the blocks spreading the barbs for a tighter fit.

If I put the plate back on, it will likely be using the tow hook bracket.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to confirm the attachment method of the base of the standard Porsche front plate bracket bases (the two blocks that the flat plate mounts to). As I was looking inside the cavity of the blocks for a screw head type, I realized there was no screw - it looks like a rivet. But searching on the net I think this a snap in item, could someone confirm this? Does it just pop off if I pry it out - or should I drill it out? Here is what I think it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...68755a&vxp=mtr Thanks

POST 2Original post

yes, those blocks are pressed into the holes. the "barbed" prongs go into the hole, expand and lock in place. WARNING: the fit may not be tight/secure enough and can very easily fall off when bumped in parking lots. I wrapped the prongs with teflon tape to help tighten the fit.

Ok, thanks. I wish these had fallen off in the parking lot - so I should be able to just pull them out with some pulling and wiggling.

Was this going to be the usual "the forum has a search function" post, or I am missing something just as obvious?

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 11890340

No, just some clarification. After the blocks are pushed in it is not just the plastic expanding that holds them in. If one uses the proper screws to mount the plastic "Porsche" backing plate the screws go through the blocks spreading the barbs for a tighter fit.

100% correct and I agree. Sadly for me, even with the correct screws (that came with the assembly), the barbs were "not enough" to keep the plate in place

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I removed the screws prior to just pulling the locks out. Was no problem, but one of the "claws" on one block broke off, not that I care, though. If I put the plate back on, it will likely be using the tow hook bracket. I went to the hardware store and they had some body trim buttons that are close to the color of my car - it looks so much better.
