Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I didn't stage the shot, just cleaned the oil off and snapped the pic.

When I fitted my LN plug a few years ago, the 19 ft/lb felt so low a torque compared with the steel original that I got out from under the car just to check that 19 was the correct number and I had set my torque wrench to the correct setting.

Felt like I could have tightened the plug to the correct setting with my fingers.

Suggestion
It snapped when tightening but well below 37 ft/lb.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well this is new. Performing an oil change this morning, the magnetic drain plug broke. The flange snapped right off after one turn of the wrench. I have never seen this before.
Luckily I had a spare new factory plug in stock at Gator's warehouse. The good news is that there was zero metal attached to the magnetic plug and the filter looked great upon dissection. 109,000 miles on the 99 996 and things look good.
Same happened to me - I was reinstalling it after draining the oil. I wasn't applying much torque and it snapped right off at the flange. The caveat of their design is increasing the hex size over OEM - less likely to round out, but more likely to snap in half (as evidenced).
I just went with an OEM drain plug for $3.50 after that incident...
The torque spec on a billet magnetic L&N drain plug is 19ft.lbs. Send Charles an email. I'd bet he'd stand behind his product and replace. Great guy and vendor.

I had the same thing happen to 2 LN plugs. Both times they broke weeks after installation. Luckily, I noticed a little oil puddle and was able to catch it before the plug came out completely. I still have a drip of oil that comes from the plug, so I think it might be a machining defect with the sump plate.

Could you imagine what a Jiffy Lube gorilla would do to a LN plug........
It may be the angle of the pic. I didn't stage the shot, just cleaned the oil off and snapped the pic. Edit: I see what you're saying now. Yes, it indeed looks off center.
Could it have been possible that the hex bit was not fully seated in the plug? (I'm assuming from your other comments that it failed when removing the plug.) I've found that I must pay very close attention to ensuring the bit is all the way in--I've come close to rounding the stock aluminum plugs before by not doing so.
Glad to hear LN is standing behind their products!
My L&N magnetic drain plug had broken in the same way. But I hadn't commented here since I realized afterwards that the spec torque was 19 ft/lb and not the standard 37 ft/lb of the OE part. It snapped when tightening but well below 37 ft/lb. I like the idea of the part but I won't be buying one again.
