As an avid reader of this board, I see lots of threads where cars are shown with license plates exposed, and those that are concealed. Just curious about what the threat is if someone sees your plate number. I see hundreds of them every day on the road. If a North Korean-sponsored hacker spotted your plate number by chance on this board, what eggsackly could they do to empty your bank account? Aren't we all on public record already?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I've never understood people's habit of hiding their license plate number. Some have tried to explain it, but the explanation has never satisfied me......
Some people chose to not divulge their real identity on forums so this is a way to keep that intact.
I hide my identity on all forums. People think I look like my avatar, but I don't.
Sh*t, you mean to tell me I've been wasting my time looking for you on the roads when I'm driving around? Huge holiday letdown...

It's just to hide those unfortunate vanity plates... WIFESCAR GOTMINE 4U2NV PORSHA ITSA911 CUL8R or mine GNZO911
I love my plate! Having a hard time posting from my phone... Fixed the problem! Two for one joke going on here: 1 - Its a Porsche with headers and no cats with an Environmental plate! 2 - I spent my kid’s college money!
For 3 Porsches before my current C4S my plate SEEE U was a take on my Forum name. Never bothered me being identified the same online as in person.
Yeah, never understood that trend. If someone wanted a random license plate number they may as well just walk out on to the street... logging in to a forum and trying to find a picture with a license plate number seems like a lot of work. There's tens of thousands of cars to get one from in most big cities...
FWIW, I hope I haven't pissed anyone off here so much that they're going to torch my 996 if they see my plate. Otherwise, I see no reason to obscure it. Only douchenozzles have vanity plates. Oh, wait. Damn.
Once in a while, you see some poor bastard driving the wife's car - with the "princess" license plate frame. Almost makes up for the wife having to drive any car that has a plastic *******...
Some people are just funny about privacy. I coach a youth baseball team for high school freshman aged boys that has a Facebook page. One mom refuses to allow any photo of her son to be posted to the Facebook page, so everyone has to be very careful not to include that boy in a picture if they want to post it. Same mom has let that same boy walk to school (about a mile away from home) since he was 8 years old. I've never heard of a 15 yr old boy being harmed due to his picture being on Facebook along with his baseball team. On the other hand, child abductions on the walk to/from school are a common occurrence nationwide. So, go figure. It's not a battle worth fighting.
