So, I'm using 14 mpg as a rough gauge of fuel consumption, which at 1/2 fuel/empty would be about 8x14=112 miles and at 1/4 tank remaining about 12x14=168 miles.

POST 2Original post

Congrats....As an Aero owner myself, my biased opinion is you bought the perfect 911! Looks great and nice low mileage. Great find! To make the car drop dead goergeous (not that there is anything wrong with it as it stands), I would do the following: 1) Lower the car. 2) Get wheel spacers to move them out a bit in the back. 3) Go back to silver wheels, that will make the aero pop.

POST 3Original post

Nice looking car, congrats! (You probably already know, but that 4 digit number hand written on the option sticker is probably the radio code)

Agreed on the silver wheels. Otherwise looks gr8

POST 7Original post

”A 1999 is just so fine” the 99 cars are great you are correct Aero kit added at some point option code sticker does not show Aero option, I think you are right to consider getting wheels back to original finish, good luck with the car. Rich

POST 14Original post

Congrats and welcome! The 3000GT VR-4 is a rare cool car for sure, but the 911 is going to be the car you cant wait to get into and drive. Looks great. Im partial to 99s - they are the lightest 911 in 30 years, including some of the air-cooled cars, they are simpler, the IMSB is better, they are classics/antiques sooner (lower insurance premiums coming faster), and they are still quite easy to work on, yet have a very high quality build/construction. Sure, a few design mistakes were made, but Porsche actually ended up with a very solid first year attempt for a water-cooled 911.

POST 15Original post

Congrats! I just got a '99 three months ago myself. I'm usually against powder coated wheels. I was looking at a blue C2 with black wheels just before I bought mine and it looked too "bro-ish" if that makes any sense. I like it on yours though. It offsets & breaks up the silver coloring of the body. It's like a baby. You end up buying a bunch of stuff for it.

POST 17Original post

Congrats on the purchase, will give you many miles of smiles!

POST 19Original post

Good for you man! I know the "feeling smile" very well. This is my first ever 'real' sportscar. I've owned many motorcycles over my 53 years that have given the same smile, but not as comfortable to my back and heinie Oh, and I like the powder coated black wheels (but I am biased since that's what I did to mine).

POST 22Original post

Very nice Aero 996 indeed, enjoy her in good health... Agreed on wheel spacer to give the car a more aggressive stand; Your rear "GT-Wings" on rear bumper will further enhance that look. Lastly, I think a painted rear bumperettes to match the body silver color will nicely complete that sporty look. Cheers,

POST 23Original post

Congrats! the model you purchased looks mint! especially with the aero kit my god its absolutely lovely. Have fun and stay safe.

POST 27Original post

Glad the dealer is working with you! I have no regrets about the console delete kit in my car. Love the look and the extra room. For a SSK, many people install a 997 shifter. It will reduce the throw around 15%. I installed that as well, though didn’t notice a huge change. Seems like the best option is the Numeric shifter, but that has a much higher price tag..

POST 29Original post

If you're looking for something shorter I'd say to go with B&M or Schnell. I started out swapping stock for a 997 and didn't really feel much difference, sold it and got a Schnell, like this much better. It's a little notchy depending who you ask, so trial and error based on personal preference.

POST 30Original post

When the MAF sensor is replaced, reset the DME by disconnecting the negative battery lead for 15 minutes or so. That will force the DME to re-learn all the adaptations. Go for a drive for 30 minutes after warm up.

POST 33Original post

I'd be interested. I can't decide if I want to keep the CDR220 or the 210 in my car.

POST 35Original post

Regarding the ground wire on the bottom, I've had about 30 radios in my 996 (I buy them used and test then sell them) - both 210 and 220 versions - and I have never plugged that back in and have had zero problems. I wonder if it's some alarm related circuit ? Either way it's been stuffed behind the dash ever since I removed the crappy Alpine unit my car came with. I'm surprised the radio cage came out with the unit when you used the radio removal tools - the radio locks into the cage which is normally pretty rigidly fitted to the dash. At any rate, how well does the system work ? Side note, on your faceplate do the volume and up and down arrows light up ? I've had a BUNCH of 210 units and none of those lit up

POST 36Original post

Also you have CR-210. CDR means CD player; CR is the cassette version.

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 16734729

I would replace the tank if you already have to drop the engine for any reason. Otherwise, keep an eye on it, assuming no stress fractures or issues with it today, and assuming you keep your temps in check. When you do replace it, spend the big bucks and get the real one - OEM - for a high price, not the cheap ones.

POST 40Original post

Do your car a favor and replace the coolant cap. Yours ends in 00. There have been four upgrades since. Get a cap ending in 04 and is blue.

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 16734823

Top tip. Thanks, will get one ordered soon

POST 45Original post

Quotes source post: 16747223

You could try to run the car as close to empty as you so desire, and then fill it all the way up, disconnect the negative lead of the battery cable, and wait 5 mins. Reconnect. It may help reset the gauge. The gas tank sender doesnt measure fuel in all fuel level positions. It must estimate due to the shape of the tank. That could be whats going on.

POST 46Original post

I’ve heard several that 996.1 vehicles rarely read correct fuel level below 1/2 tank. My 996.2 seems to be fairly accurate in this respect.

POST 47Original post

Forgot to say congrats on your Porsche. Cheers

POST 48Original post

There is a calibration method, but it requires the Porsche dealer with Porsche system tester 2 to do it.

POST 49Original post

Quotes source post: 16747401

I rarely let any of my cars drop below 1/2 tank, so i can't comment on the low fuel readings in my 996 but my fuel gauge NEVER reads full when it is full (which I know it is because I fill it all away up until there is some overflow). Been doing this to try to accurately calculate fuel mileage which seems erratic. In any event, my fuel gauge usually 3/4 to 7/8 full when completely full. So, like when I use to ride motorcycles, I'm guessing at the fuel level based on miles driven. Here again my 996 seems to be inconsistent, varying between 12-16 mpg but most recently around 14-15mpg. So, I'm using 14 mpg as a rough gauge of fuel consumption, which at 1/2 fuel/empty would be about 8x14=112 miles and at 1/4 tank remaining about 12x14=168 miles. I know there's supposedly a bit more in the tank than 16 gallons; I'm treating the extra 0.6 gals as a reserve. Not much range but enough for my short weekly loops of around 100 miles, when the fuel gauge reads a little over 1/2 full, before I fill up again on the way home.

POST 50Original post

I too usually fill up after reaching 1/2 tank. Strangely, mine does appear accurate as to being full.

POST 52Original post

Quotes source post: 16747444

Same here. Usually 7/8th. My gas light starts flowing when theres 2-3 gallons left in the tank. I have gotten used to it.

POST 54Original post

Did you have a chance to see if all the buttons light up on your radio ?

POST 56Original post

Quotes source post: 16751183

Which ones don't work ? The up and down on either side of the face plate ?

POST 59Original post

I'm not sure. I've had 10 or so units in my 996 and none have had those buttons light up maybe it's a common failure point. Maybe they're not supposed to I'm not sure

POST 61Original post

The 210 faceplate is interchangeable with either CDR or CR. same with the 220, just the model number written on the faceplate will be wrong. Both had a cool oem faceplate holder from Porsche which is still available

POST 64Original post

Quotes source post: 16751573

I got my 2000 C4 Cab for $15k that I considered a steal. It had/has minor problems that I've paid about $5k to fix, so I'm about even (based on KBB) in the car and I'm fine w/that. The car "should" be worth more but, given what I got mine for, I'm happy. I've never used 6th gear in mine yet. The same "undervaluation" applies to my MR2 which is a grossly under-appreciated sports car. Yeah, it's underpowered but I've never spent a cent on repairs for this car in the 15 YEARS that I've owned it. Not so the 996 that I just bought. I've thought about selling/trading in the MR2 a couple of times but, given how cheap it was to buy, maintain and continue to own, it's really stupid to think about selling it given how much FUN I always have driving it. KBB lists it's "value" at only around $7-8k (at best) and stock versions have only sold for around $10k on BAT. At those prices, I'm happy just to keep it, as long as I have room for it.

Can you take some pics and update how it works this something I am interested in since I want to keep the car looking stock. Nevermind, it seems like its in the post for some reason I couldn't see it via mobile.

POST 75Original post

Was it difficult to pull the A-pillar trim? Could you provide some pointing on removing it? I am running a dash cam. Have the wire run long the A-pillar and windshield gap. But I think your routing is much cleaner.

Good ride, all. Thanks for all of the advice and the replies, and I hope that I've been able to offer a bit in return as well. I got lit on fire in the thread about the Targa on BaT, and while I've really enjoyed my time here and have learned a lot, it's clear that I need to take a vacation from the site for a bit. Be well.
