Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also used an O2 sensor wrench to get a 90 degree push, but not getting it to sit.
Leading evidence: 'Use o2 sensor wrench' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cam position sensor, and the bitch bolt lived up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

U could tell by the seal on the old aos it was the same.

I had to replace the cam position sensor, and the bitch bolt lived up to its reputation.

I will have too pull the engine in about 50k miles to replace clutch and IMS, then I can do the perm fix on the AOS mounting.

Don‘t over tighten it, just use the extra threads to seat the AOS and then swap then correct bolt back in.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I am in a bit of a pickle. My bolts to tighten and thus pull the AOS into the block have stripped. (Love AL blocks). I had to replace the cam position sensor, and the bitch bolt lived up to its reputation. When I went to put th eAOS back into position, the bolts will not tighten and will spin at some point.I looked at the o ring by the block, and sure enough, only one of the three rings is int he block. I can not get any leverage on it to pull the AOS into the block. Just wondering what folks would suggest doing. Given the position, it is hard to manipulate that puppy and push it into place. So far I have tried to tap it into place with a long ratchet extension. I also used an O2 sensor wrench to get a 90 degree push, but not getting it to sit.
So what I have is an air leak. I am assuming it is the AOS, but have not tested it with my smoke machine yet. The car runs great, and my short term trims are great when under load, but at idle, (sitting at a light) my short term triads will both climb to 25 and the CEL light will come on with a p1124 and p1126, so both banks have a vacuum leak, and sure sounds like this is my culprit.
I have also not done a partial drop on the engine, and I think that may help me to get more leverage on it but going over the top and pushing in. I also thought about trying to make a turnbuckle device and expand it to push the AOS in the block to seal. I will have too pull the engine in about 50k miles to replace clutch and IMS, then I can do the perm fix on the AOS mounting. Was hoping to avoid that and get my air leak sorted out. I think once I get it seated, it should be good to go for a while. Was also thinking about a bigger diameter bolt, but again don't want to mess up the channel until I can fix it right.
I know in the old time steel blocks, could use sewing thread to help me out, but not sure about Al blocks.
So what do you all think ??????
You may be lucky and the bolt holes may not be stripped. Once you get the AOS fully seated, there may be enough thread to tighten them. As for getting the AOS in, I'm sorry but don't have an answer. A turnbuckle seems like the best alternative.
You need a longer bolt to get it to seat.
Go buy an M6-40mm
Don‘t over tighten it, just use the extra threads to seat the AOS and then swap then correct bolt back in.
I'd be surprised if the block is stripped. My guess is you just don't have the AOS seated. Try this. Pull AOS away, see if you can get the bolts to go in without issue. If you can, you just need to make sure the AOS is seated. Add some oil around the o-rings on the AOS. I have also had to use a large screwdriver or prybar to the the AOS seated correctly.
Good luck.
Well got this done this weekend. the longer bolts went in to torque specs. So crossing my fingers. I can also see the 3 ribbed o-ring still. Is this normal, or should they completely sit in the block. The trick to this job was to partially drop the engine off the rear motor mounts. the gave me much better access to the AOS.
you should not see any of the seal. There are two little ribs on the plastic on the AOS where it enters the block. When its fully seated, those ribs should be touching or just a teensy bit off the block.
The longer bolts are just to get the o-ring seated.
Swap them out to the correct bolts for torquing.
The longer bolts may bottom out before the AOS is fully seated.
Dont know if its right or wrong but u can see the orange seal and a rib on my mk1. U could tell by the seal on the old aos it was the same. Neither the old nor the new one leak at the seal so i left it.
