Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just swapping my cabin air filter and noticed that the previous owner who had the battery replaced didn't clean up the rust from the old leaking battery. I pulled the battery and noticed this tube disconnected. I can't tell if it's a vacuum line or a water line from the washer fluid reservoir. Any ideas where this may hook up? Also, I pulled the battery tray to clean it up and noticed some surface rust that accumulated near the drain tube to the right (looking into the boot) of the battery. Any suggestions on how to clean that up? I assume it has eaten through the paint. My car is an '04 40th Anniversary... Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

That's you vent line for the battery (if you have the correct battery with a vent).. Clean the area with baking soda to neutralized the acid, then dry it, sand, and repaint..

Great - thanks for the detail. That means I have the wrong battery, so I'll just tuck it out of the way for now. Now off to pull out the wire brush and baking soda...
