Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I lowered my old 986S and thinking about doing my 4S. In terms of difficulty, Should I expect it to be easier, harder, equal? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Remove springs and shocks, put lowering springs and shocks on, get alignment, done. now if u go too low it will need adjustable links in some places to get your alignment right

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With the 986, I had to remove a trail arm, tracking arm, remove axle from tranny, remove diaganol braces and a few other things. The strut would not be low enough to pull from under fender without? Will I have same with 996 in the rear?

POST 4Original post

No. But you will have to disconnect the front half shafts.

POST 5Original post

My car came with 1.5" lower h&r springs do its the only set up i have done. I can remove the front and rear without removing anything else.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The front half shafts are the shafts that go to the front wheels? Do they come off at the wheel or the differential? Easy as unscrew, pop off and screw back on or is there a bunch of pieces that will fall out?

POST 7Original post

Yea mines a c2 so no half shaft 4 me. Someone else will have to chime in.

POST 8Original post

compared to 986 front is more difficult/time consuming. rear is way easier. Rear is very easy compared to 986. on the 4s you remove sway bar link 3 top bolts 1 bottom bolt and R&R. It's really too easy compared to 986 Front is a little tricky. There is a few ways to do it watch videos and pick a method. Depending on if you are installing springs only or spring/struts or coilovers. If you are just replacing just the springs, it's very easy with minimal removal. Some people do that but if your top hats etc are old, you'd have to remove the whole assembly. To replace with coilovers or new spring/struts, it's a little more work. unbolt tie rod/ remove way bar link/ unbolt halfshaft either wheel carrier end OR differential end. I've seen people R&R without unbolting the halfshaft but I think it's way easier unbolting the halfshaft. removing halfshaft depends on what you like...the wheel carrier side tq specs is 350ish? I forget but you'll need a long breaker bar. If you do the diff. side its 8? hex bolts. I've done it both ways a dozen times and both take similar amount of time. Overall if you've done a boxster, total time should be similar
