Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First time this has happened - driving about 5 minutes into my drive I randomly look at my gauges and notice for 1 second the oil pressure suddenly drops to 0, and the warming comes on as oil sensor failure. Then 1 second later it automatically goes away, gauge comes back up. Car didn't act any differently through this episode though i did take my foot off the accelerator. Ideas? One time event I should forget till it happens again or should I have it checked out? Thanks!!

Have it checked out. I'm pretty sure the problem is a sensor. Engines just don't lose oil pressure like that then recover. If the engine oil pressure truly went to 0psi you'd know it. And even if you took your foot off the gas it wouldn't help. But you want it checked out and corrected cause it can be a real heart stopper to see that happen.

POST 3Original post

A somewhat common failure of the oil pressure sending unit causes symptoms like that. See if you can search for oil pressure sending unit failure, there are probably 20 threads on it. Relatively inexpensive, easy fix.

POST 4Original post

Second the oil pressure sending unit. You need a crowsfoot wrench; other than that it's a pretty easy DIY. Good luck.

POST 6Original post

Just posted the very same question before I read this. I will be ordering a new sending unit in the morning. Thank you so much.
