Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm working on rebuilding a 996 motor and I have the factory manuals (Thanks to Wayne at Pelican), but for the life of me I can't find any wear limit specifications for the crank/rod bearings and journals. Does anybody have these specs or know where I can find them? Also: are first under bearings available? TIA james

POST 2Original post

Jake Raby is the guy with that detail info type. Why the rebuild?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well...we thought this was a classical IMS issue based on what we were told by the experts. Once we tore into it we discovered the IMS was fine, but it spun all the rod bearings (one is pretty bad and needs to be turned.). All the rod big end journals are stretched. We also found micro cracks on the cylinder walls and were not sure if we have to re-sleeve or not. Bad news for the owner who just bought the car and never really drove it.

Wow, this is becoming a trend. Any idea why it spun the bearings?

The thick plottens for sure... The previous owner had recently replaced the oil pan. By the looks of the car we know the PO was a schmuck. I suspect the PO busted the oil pan and lost all the oil.

POST 7Original post

What year is the car? Oil starvation on the track?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1999 - I don't think the PO was the track junkie type.

They were not exactly willing to part with any information.

POST 10Original post

dont think it was easy for them to get it..... its what gives them the "edge" right now (and shops that partner up with them)

Yep. Certainly understandable.
