Secondly, replacing my fuel cell with one that utilizes some sort of bladder system to hold the fuel.

I know that some of them use a flexible kevlar material instead of a metal surround structure, and that's what I'm leaning towards.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I understand that no fuel cell/tank can ever be completely fire/explosion proof, but I am definitely not happy with the setup that I currently have in my track car. I haven't done much searching, but I was just wondering if you guys could help me think of ways to make the fuel cell less likely to erupt into flames in a hard frontal impact. I am considering a few things: first, a "roll cage," as it were, surrounding the fuel cell itself, such that the fuel cell will not be mangled in a wreck. Secondly, replacing my fuel cell with one that utilizes some sort of bladder system to hold the fuel. I know that some of them use a flexible kevlar material instead of a metal surround structure, and that's what I'm leaning towards. Lastly, I know some of the automatic fire suppression systems have nozzles in the engine bay, but I don't care nearly as much about that as I do the fuel cell itself. Do people put sprayer nozzles near the fuel cell in case **** hits the fan?? Please let me know what you all recommend. Thanks!

A fuel cell with a bladder can withstand a hell of an impact without leaking. I'd reach out to the manufacturer of yours and ask what your construction, and their recommendations are. I know some protective items (belts, helmets, seats, and possibly roll protection) are dated for manufacture and end of their useful life. I don't know if fuel cell bladders have a similar time limitation. If there is a catastrophic rupture of the fuel cell and a fire, you can't pack enough fire retardant in the entire car to put it out. The purpose of the firewall between the frunk and the passenger compartment is to give you some protected time before you formulate a plan and exit the vehicle. Should you be incapacitated when the fire broke out, then I hope you have some good company on-hand to assist. Languishing in a burning vehicle is not recommended.
