Suspected cause

The jail sentence issue is before the Supreme Court as I understand it but until that part of the law is struck down - the judges could in theory put you in jail so therefore - arrest is in order for non-residents.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1. Why was this a Police issue? He did donuts with a few idiots who clearly didn't get the danger of standing near him while he was doing this - taking videos or pictures. Public safety issue. If they got run down and the lawyers heard that Police stood by and didn't do anything it's their a$$ on the line. There is no way the officers would/could know the skill level of the driver in the Porsche. Had the car gone out of control it would be all over youtube as people are run over. That would have been a PR nightmare to defend in the press concerning why the guy was allowed to keep doing 360's. Had there been no one in the parking lot standing around chances are he would have been questioned at worst as to why he was wreaking his tires. It was the people standing around that made this become a 'public' event even if held on private property. You also require 'consent' the the property owner to hold events like this and I'm doubting anyone asked the property owner if they could put his property insurance at risk... At this point we don't know if the property owners called the Police - as is their right. 2. Why Jail? He was out of Province and hence there would be a real issue or question if this person would return for his trial and or even pay the fine. They must arrest in that case so that a bail equal to what the max fine would be can be posted and thats the 'why' he was arrested. Had he been a resident of Ontario he would have been given a sumons to appear.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 7557264

So you say that all non-residents of the Province are arrested for all vehicle infractions?

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 7557375

Here's the thing: Under the Highway Traffic Act here in Ontario, the 'stunting' law (and also the 50kph over the speed limit law) does carry with it 'possible' jail time and also a $10K fine or both. (It also has car inpound and licence suspension for 7 days as well in the law) If it had been a simple speeding issue or failure to signal, failure to stop at stop sign etc. then it would have been a ticket or sumons. But the stunting law carries a possible jail sentence upon conviction (not happened so far) so therefore the issue of a bond comes into play for out of Province drivers - let alone out of country. The jail sentence issue is before the Supreme Court as I understand it but until that part of the law is struck down - the judges could in theory put you in jail so therefore - arrest is in order for non-residents.

POST 13Original post

I just think there was a whole lot missing from that story. Whatever the idiot was doing, he seemed to be doing it on private property. You don't end up in the back of a cruiser for doing donuts, no matter where you're from. Maybe the cops warned him off and he got aggressive with the LEO or something. Who knows... Curious as to where that is. It's not a metro cop. I think it's a Peel cop, or maybe Durham.

yeah My thoguht too.... I say it was a publicity stunt. Was he on private property?... You coudl do donuts in walmart parking lot and they coudl really do nothing becasue it is private property

POST 15Original post

The guy deserved to get arrested for such a weak donut, ha. Seriously not much in the way of car control.
