doesn't seem to be any performance upgrade since it still uses the same filter, but the cleaner look is well worth it

Hello everyone, hoping someone can help. I�ve searched other threads regarding this mod but haven�t come across an answer to my question. I am upgrading to a 997.1 (3.6) airbox in my 2002 996. My 996 is manual but the airbox I am interested in buying came from an automatic transmission. Can someone help me understand if there are any differences in the airbox, MAF, or anything else? Or are they interchangeable? Thanks in advance.

Airboxes should be the same AFAIK. The rubber coupling between airbox and throttle body has an extra hose that connects to it on the automatics. If you use that you can probably just cap it.

^ Looney, now that you've made the mod, how would you describe the results? I had the K&N CAI kit but sent it back when I read the part in the Directions that started off with, "drill a hole...." I'd earlier installed one in a Jeep Cherokee Overland (no drilling required, just a quart bag of curse words) and was happy with what I judged to be improved sound.
