Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In a recent post I described how the motor in my 996 blew, and I sold the car as a roller. I am now in the process of going through stuff in my garage and selling off stuff I no longer have use for. One of those things is a phone mount that I made. I wanted something that would place my phone where I can see it while driving, such as when I am using the maps app. I could not find anything out there that fit the bill, except suction-cup mounts or ones that are stuck onto the dash with adhesives. I just don't like things stuck on the windshield, and I did not want to stick anything onto the dash with an adhesive. So, I made one myself: I bought a piece of metal bar from Home Depot, put the bend in it, and then cut it to length. I used a grinder to round off the corners. I bought a WIZGEAR magnetic phone mount from Amazon, and stuck it to the metal bar. Then I masked off the WIZGEAR part and sprayed the metal bar black. The one end of the mount slides between the instrument cluster housing and the dashboard, as indicated in the following picture. I wish I had taken pictures of it in my car, but I didn't, and now I don't have the car, so . . . It worked great for me. Very stable, very little vibration. I have a little metal plate in between the back of my phone and its case that sticks to the magnet. I'm pretty sure I have some spare metal plates, and if I do I will include one. For $30 it's yours, and I will ship it to the CONUS.
