Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its pretty damn hot but this is the lowest Ive seen the oil pressure at this speed and RPM. Does this seem normal?

POST 2Original post

Seems low from what I'm used to/have seen in my car (at 3k rpm it's usually well over 3 bar)... What kind of oil, and how many miles on it?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16847979

103k on motor and a little over 4K since last oil change. Running Motul 15w40 currently..

POST 4Original post

Seems low for fairly heavyweight oil. I don't know enough about oils to make any "declarations", but it definitely seems low. How long have you been using this oil? Did you notice similar behavior before the last change?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16847996

I believe I did notice before when using 5w40.

POST 6Original post

The Porsche manual says that 3.5bar at 5k rpm when fully warmed up is normal. So, youre well within spec.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16848036

very good, thank you!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PS. This is a 1999 996 if that makes the difference..

POST 9Original post

It's 110f ambient! I guessing the oil is pretty hot which would mean less pressure...at least I think that's the way it works.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16848230

Thats what Im thinking too. Hotter than a Beatles ***** on an Arizona Highway.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 16847919

I have the same issue so switched to Motul 5w-50 Sport oil. Pressure is up even when hot. Where I live (Sacramento CA area) it is often over 100F so after three years, decided that the 40weogjt is too thin.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16848265

Where do you get the Motul 5w50 and is it Porsche approved?

POST 13Original post

I am in Sacramento also, best thing I did was to run 5W50 also, I use Redline Oil, Porsche approve A40 oil. get it on Amazon.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 16848267

I bought it here https://www.rvautoparts.com/102716-M..._p_439752.html but I see it is $10 more oer 5l jug than when I bought it last month. The oil is not A40 approved however, I looked up the specs to compare to other approved oils and they appear better. I am not an oil expert but can read numbers and look up definitions. I picked what made sense to me rather than go off of advice. Also note, reading blogs and forums from Europe, it appears much of the rest of the world is using 5w-50 in these cars already. admittedly, this is basically an unqualified choice on my part since if I listened to the experts, I would be running a different (lighter) oil.

POST 15Original post

Secondary question: Is that your airbag light that is on? Do you know why?

POST 16Original post

Something might be wrong. Even though its 110F out, the engine coolant is still pretty cool (its probably well under 210F). So the oil shouldnt be very hot if you are on the highway and you have a lot of air moving through the radiators. I would start investigating the two relief valves, oil filter, sending unit, gauge. Worst case, drop the pan.

POST 17Original post

I would the pressure low for rpm, but appears maybe not.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 16848726

yes, its the airbag light. Its the drivers side seat belt wiring thats acting up.
