The bulb behind the display is probably burned out. You can change it by taking out the instrument cluster, the bulbs are attached to a little cap that is removed from the back. It seems to be Porsche pn 999 631 302 90 though you can probably find one on ebay or amazon.

Mines been burnt out for the better part of two months now. DIY doesn't look like too bad of a job, but it seems like if you're going in you're better off replacing all the bulbs at the same time since they don't cost much.

Just an FYI to all, it is NOT a bulb that illuminates the odometer and mileage reading on the cluster. It is in fact an LCD board and the repair is a bit more involved.
