Try not engaging the cruise control at all for several consecutive days and drive normally, if issue disappears i think you know where the problem is coming from.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re-named the problem I have had for the last three months with my "sticking throttle" Quick recap: throttle seems to "stick" at 2300 or so. Replaced the Idle valve (it was cracked), the cables are free and clean, as is the throttle pedal, throttle body, no vacuum leak. I am now wondering if it is an issue with the cruise control. I usually drive with it on, but not always engaged. If I brake (cruise on, but not engaged) with the car in gear and throttle sticking, the problem will go away as I get down to 1200 rpm or so, and the car will idle normally. Nothing else stops the sticking - not punching the gas, etc. Driving last night the throttle actually ran-up twice from a low idle while car was in neutral and I got a check engine light. Usually the idle stays high only after the engine goes past the 2300 mark from normal driving. It just stays up there. I disengaged the cruise control, and didn't have a problem for the remaining 1/2 hour of driving. Looking forward to finding out which code is causing the engine light, perhaps i will finally solve this problem.

POST 2Original post

Try not engaging the cruise control at all for several consecutive days and drive normally, if issue disappears i think you know where the problem is coming from. Just a thought.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So the check engine light was for the mass air flow sensor. I disconnected it, which I believe puts the car in default setting, and drove it for 1/2 hour without any issues with the runaway revs. After shutting it down for 1/2 hour, I restarted, (MAFS still disconnected) The idle wandered briefly, then seemed to settle. Of course the engine light came on again, but that was to be expected. Going to replace the MAFS
