Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, First time on here with the 996 crowd. Im a 997 owner and have posted this on our section already. Owing a 05 C2 with the M96, your guys feedback would be helpful and appreciated. not sure if this is normal with the older original pan covers or not. Did a oil change this week and noticed a chuck of the pan cover treading missing. Filter did show up some small aluminum treading pieces and also in the old oil. I could not believe what I saw. Has anyone seen or heard of this happening? Heres a photo. so I called a couple of Porsche dealerships on a replacement pan cover. They all recommend the original pan cover/ plastic baffles. Even though I dont track the car and no plans on doing so, should I go ahead with OEM X51 sumo kit? Been reading lots on this and seems to be mixed feelings if not tracking dont bother with X51.. thanks

POST 2Original post

I Have a good pan/sump coverplate with the LN part that raises the Porsche Baffle to minimize oil sloshing I'll sell.

POST 3Original post

I bought a cover off ebay for $60 when i got my car because the seller cracked the original. Easy to swap out. Not a common failure but its a steel plug in an alumunum hole so it could happen.

POST 4Original post

That "missing chunk" is normal. That's how the pan is cast from the factory, the "missing piece" is there so that all the oil can drain out of the sump pan when the drain bolt is removed. P.S. If you look at your pictures, you can see exactly that, the last bit of oil is draining at the"missing piece"

POST 5Original post

^^ IMO is correct. Here is a pic of the pan off. You can see the notch. That said, if you have bits in the oil, you should likely drop the pan and see what is in there too.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great quick replys... I feel a lot more comfortable on this issue. I will drop the pan, take a look and a good cleaning with fresh oil/filter. Picture tells it all, was trying to find a picture online like that with no success! Lol Much appreciated! thank you

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I guess one other concern is the small amount of aluminum shavings I did find on this last oil change. Is it normal for once in a blue moon for small aluminum shavings to show up?

POST 8Original post

Yes, the engine sheds metal over it's life so small specs here and there are normal.
