Mine ended up getting sent off to Flat 6 to get the timing chains replaced soon after purchase and got new clutch, IMS **Solution**, and new accessories.
Leading evidence: 'Replace soon' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'couple of factors are involved' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bearing prior' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Suggestion
While it sucks to have to answer a bunch of IMS solution questions if your selling or have to change a bearing prior to sale.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What am I missing about this car?
I mean it's really nice, but is this the current 996 pricing?

Yes, i think it's current market. It's an awful lot of car even for 30k. What else can you buy for that price that compares? Also, i think that every day that goes by there are fewer and fewer nice ones out there...just my thoughts.
Market is subjective. Selling private you can hold your price and over a duration of time you might be able to pull a higher premium. You can also have a bidding battle on an auction. There was a red 996 factory aero "GT" from a while back that sold for $37k if I recall correctly. Like most things it boils down to who's in the market, maybe someone sees it and they "have to have it".
N/A 996 market is pretty interesting as whole, the spectrum of selling prices is broad within a handful of variables. Seems that broad range is anywhere from $15k - $40k (Targa that blew up as an example).
Are you thinking the recent BAT you listed for sell price of $31k is under or above it's value?
I thought that a 60K mile C2 Coupe with MT would sell for around $20K.
An non-original Aerokit I figured would add a few thousand.
I just haven't been tracking prices lately...and I haven't seen any for sale locally either.
(I really haven't been searching, but I used to see them when I looked on Craigslist)
I haven't been in the market since I bought mine in March but this seems high to me. This is a lot like the car I bought. Mine didn't have the carbon fiber but did have full leather, factory litronics and aftermarket LED taillights. I paid $23.5K. At the time, the only cars that were listed for over $25K had something special about them or a bunch of mods that the owner was trying to get his money out of. I was also able to do a PPI
The thing I never liked about auctions is at the end you realize you were the only one in the room who was willing to pay that much.
I don't think you're off in your estimates, but I do think there has been a small climb in prices. BAT reaches a pretty large audience, and with younger people that first got into P cars around the 2000's (myself after driving my buddies dads 996) the internet is a great place to find a dream car. While the black one wasn't factory aero, adding aero after the fact costs just as much, if not more as I know you're aware. Then they had the addition of all those carbon interior pieces. I can see where it ticked a lot of boxes and brought what it did. While not stamped on the factory code, those numbers & letters on the sticker really only matter to certain buyer.
The days of $20k well sorted 996's are likely on the brink of no more. With some being $90k from the factory, $20k could only last for so long.
Of course this is personal opinion and the only thing that's fact is, time will tell.
I suspect a couple of factors are involved
1) The used car market as a whole is very tight right now and as supply decreases....
2) The 996 was undervalued due to the IMS and other mechanical issues that can now be resolved. While it sucks to have to answer a bunch of IMS solution questions if your selling or have to change a bearing prior to sale. Resolving these issues puts the 996 perceived reliability back in line with other 911 models and prices are correcting to reflect this
3) BaT seems to reflect the high end of the market
4) I just bought mine less than a month ago and my motto is buy low sell high baby

I paid $20K for mine with just 50K miles on it almost three years ago...and 31K (s)miles ago.
I knew it was a great deal, that's why it was in my garage 2 days after the ad was posted.
I just figured that even with adding the Aerokit bits, headlight covers, extra set of uncovered 996.2 headlights, Feal suspension, adjustable suspension bits, GT3 Cup front spoiler, OZ wheels, engine mods(2qt deep sump, LN skid plate, UAOS) Fabspeed exhaust and intake, rollbar, MOMO steering wheel, rear seat delete, red Brembo caliper update, FF shift ****, SprintBooster, Asperical mirrors, Wheel studs, GT3 brake ducts, fire extinguishers, Rennline tie downs, 997 GT3 shifter, dash cam, floor mats, and a Rennline cell phone holder that I'd be lucky to get much over $20K.
Mine is definitely not for sale!
I'm upside down in it because of all the mods...so luckily I don't need to sell it.
When I finally get a FSI engine, I'll really be upside down in it...and I'm perfectly fine with that.
My motto is drive it like you stole it and never EVER sell it. Let your kids fight over it after you're gone. I've kept all the original parts so my kids can sell those with it if they decide they don't want it.
BaT is almost always going to bring inflated pricing. The used car market is ridiculous right now, my S3 has gone up in value. We went looking for a new car for my wife and there was zero reason to buy a used car, we picked up a brand new Tiguan for $3000 more than ones with 10-20k miles. Add in the fact that the 996 probably had bottomed out the last few years and just presents a great value for a used sports car. There are two outliers on recent coupe sales on BaT but most have been going for $25k or more. Even the last cab went for almost $22k without IMS and other major maintenance addressed. Makes me want to get a new top and list my cab which has had the major service in the last 1.5 years.
I think your car might fetch more than you think at auction.
Well sorted and I imagine you have all of your documentation.
Your mods are not extreme and if you have saved the stock arts to go with it, I think it would bring more than you think.
Just my $.02
If you think a 10-20% bump in average sale price is bad, try looking for some cars that are even more rare to find in decent shape. The early model Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 market has seen prices nearly double in the last year alone. Im having trouble getting anyone to come down to earth on pricing. Dealers snatched up some nice examples on BaT this year at inflated pricing, then added another 20-25% to the price once in the lot. And they seem content to let them sit, too.
I'm in metro Atlanta and I bought my Black/Black 6MT coupe with 41K miles 2 years ago for around $25K. Anything cheaper was completely ragged out. Mine ended up getting sent off to Flat 6 to get the timing chains replaced soon after purchase and got new clutch, IMS **Solution**, and new accessories. I would not even CONSIDER letting it go for $30K now...
I'd say about 10% of the 996s that show up for sale in Atlanta are coupes and the ones that show up are at a few $K premium over cabs. Automatic trans shaves a few $K off the price.
I hope the value of my 2000 C4 Cab, that I bought last year, goes up the way my house, which I bought during the last crash, did over the past 10 years.
If so, it'll be worth $40k in 2030 when I turn 80. LOL!!!
I just picked up this one in a private sale for 20k which in todays market felt really good. 65k mi 030 XAA and sport seats. Color is L555 Paladio Metallic. It goes from gray to gold depending on the lighting. I wasnt sure what to expect in person, but Im digging it so far.
Great looking ride.
This is encouraging to see about 996s. I have had mine 2 years and I have enjoyed it. But I am at the point I need to drop some money to get it just right if I want to sell it. I was looking at a newer one at the Porsche dealership. But I laughed at what they wanted to give as a trade in value.
Fingers crossed.
I did a PPI that included IMS prequalification up to the borescoping step, and everything looked good. I'm sending off the oil sample to blackstone today. I was able to get service records from 2004 as well showing very frequent oil changes at the Porsche dealer.
