This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got a reading of one bar yesterday and panicked, briefly. So I let the car sit a bit longer and then used the dip stick. It showed just under a quart low. Then the digital confirmed the dip stick... Similar experiences?

POST 2Original post

i found that the in-dash gauge is not very accurate...

POST 3Original post

I had the same thing and posted last week. I had the same at the dipstick, felt dumb I didnt decide to check earlier... Put 3/4 quart in and is fine, and full bars on dash display...I had a hell of a time finiding 5w-40- all local auto stores didnt have , and Wal Mart just had it but some truck formula, ended up adding 0w-40.

POST 4Original post

Oil takes time to drain to the sump where it is measured. Check it first thing in am before you start the car for the best accuracy. You probably are not low at all. After you have checked it a few times you will get a feel for correlation between the gauge and the stick.

POST 5Original post

And remember, the car must be on a flat surface. If the nose is higher than the tail, you will get a higher reading. If you get a low reading, the car may not be on a level surface. It's best to check the level with the car in the same spot in your garage. Porsche recommends only adding half a liter (or quart) at a time. You can always add more later. Overfilling is worse than running at the bottom mark.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The inaccurate digital reading was of concern because the car was on a flat surface and had sat for quite a while.

POST 7Original post

06+ 997 dont have a Dipsticks... so im sure the Indash Level is very very accurate... i mean why would someone like Porsche dump the Stick for a Gauge if it was not 99%

POST 8Original post

My electronic gauge doesn't seem very accurate at all--on the same day I've seen it read even with the minimum level and with the maximum level shown on the meter.
