Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone else agree the 996 forum is the most entertaining forum on rennlist? We truly have it all here from needless imsb banter\scares all the way down to money and time saving information. It is hard to get bored up in here

POST 3Original post

Much like the 996, the 996 forum is both awesome and under-appreciated.

Very true, a few months ago I didn't own a 996, nor did I venture onto the 996 page, ever. Always been a Porsche fan so I knew the car from a text book perspective. Read article after article in Panao, Excellence etc. for years since they came out. The 996 search began. Been on the 996 forum every day since. Mostly in stalker mode as I didn't have much to contribute. I'm not one for having too many gadgets in the car, leather wrapped radio *****, super stereos etc. I mean I appreciate all those things, but Porsche for me has always been about having a seat and drive train. Frankly had I a found a 996 with roll up windows and no sunroof, I'd be ecstatic. That said I doubt I'd get much fan fair over my recent purchase. Its a simple 996, with LSD, and a service history. The 996 forum is great, I could do without the OMG the car leaked a drop of oil and hearing too much about blowing stuff up. I've been around these cars, and several different models, for a while and have seen all varieties blow up, drops transmissions, chew wheel bearings etc. I've been on the wrong end of 6K receipts for trans rebuilds, 12K motor builds etc. and those where the "reliable models". My C4 ABS pump exploded an hour before the new seller arrived to pick it up. The list goes on but I still loved that car, as well as the others I've had the chance to own. Looking forward to more reading and learning about my new to me 996....

+1 Not strictly true, 996 tt.

POST 7Original post

I come here regularly to bitch about the 928 I bought thinking it might not be a maintenance nightmare and that I might actually get to drive it more than work on it and that it might be as fun as my 996. I was wrong.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 11842094

I looked at 928's for a while before the 951 hit me in the face this summer and I scooped it up. OMG, those things are all beat, or so it seems that way, and any car that has three or four V-belts, plus up to 2 AC compressors, is not one for me. The 951 in pristine shape with 300 + HP is super nice, and the 996 is 2X that car. But there is nothing like that big rush of pressurized air through the engine and the sound of the wastegate and blow off valve. Looking forward to driving both back to back next year.

POST 10Original post

Paul: We've got a guards red 951 in the stable also. As a matter of fact, I just inherited it back from my son on Wednesday as he wanted a "normal" car for college. So, I bought him an '08 BMW 528xi with just over 100,000 miles. It wasn't expensive, should have a lot of life left in it, is AWD for crappy weather and he's happy with it. He liked the 951, but drove it all through high school and then for the majority of his first semester in college. He's in business school, so I guess he felt like he wanted a more "grown up" car. I hope that in time he'll outgrow that maturity stuff. So, rather than selling the 951, I'll take it over and bring it back into garage queen condition. But, it has been a very reliable DD for him and served him very well. I hope to get the 928 that I just bought in September sorted out over the winter. Even though the 928 was advertised as being in good condition - and in fairness, the "bones" of the car are in very good condition (good paint, good interior, drives well, 81,000 miles) - it just seems like there is a never-ending list of little crap that needs attention. The 928 is a tinkerer's dream - there are always projects that need to be done on the car. It's like a friggin' Lego set - the fun is in building (working on) the thing, not so much the driving of it. Completely different than the 996 experience (and for that matter, the 951 as well). The 996 is like a "point-and-shoot" camera compared with the 928 being one of those old fashioned SLR cameras with a buttload of equipment and time required to get nearly the same photo as the point and shoot.

I sold my 996 back in July and now have a 997.2. I check the 996 forum a dozen times a day...the 997 forum a couple of times per week. The entertainment factor is off the charts!

POST 19Original post

As a veteran of the water-cooled 911, 944, 944S2, and 968 forums, I heartily agree on the value of this space. Aside from the trolls and occasional stupid flare-ups, this is a fine forum in which to share and learn. A few years back the 968 forum featured an open war between competing factions, interestingly based on each coast. It was ugly and entertaining all at the same time.

POST 20Original post

Was that Flash from 968forums.com? That guy is crazy. He changed the rules of his website because I posted too many pictures. He changed it so you could only put one picture per post. I left and never looked back. That guy is a control freak. The guys on the 968 forum here are all just great, regular people.

The Cayenne forum was always entertaining, although it seems to have settled down a bit lately.

the 996 forum also appreciates all 911 model years, where as in the air cooled forums a lot of people like to belittle the water pumper 911's. Not everyone on there but there are many air cooled bullies out there.

I met Bob (Flash) a few times, talked on the phone a bunch, and even went to a 968 tech session at his house in Orange County as I happened to be out there. In person he is the nicest guy, would help you with anything. Watched him buff out a strangers car for hours and paint the wheel wells. He has a lot of energy... His 968 cab is/was amazing. With a lightweight flywheel and a serious chip the thing revved like an S2000 and had nearly 300 hp. He wanted me to drive it, and the kept urging me to go faster on the streets of Laguna. Nuts in a good way. But yeah, total control freak who took any hint of criticism as mortal combat. Raj and Damian in NJ - his mortal enemies- are also good guys. Damian helped me buy my 968, drove an hour from his house to check it out and then called with incredible detail. 968 world was fun and I miss the car on occasion. Who knows, I may buy one again. They are going up in value and getting hard to find.
