Reported cause · Original poster
The main reason I was confused was due to the use of compressed air.
Leading evidence: 'use of compressed air' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'use of compressed air' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill coolant without air pockets' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Total game-changer for filling the coolant without air pockets.

Also make sure you have enough coolant available so you can keep the fill hose submerged in your bucket.

I had just drained very new coolant to replace a couple of hoses, so I had drained it into a 5 gallon bucket.

I did read up on the Venturi effect, and after a quick test with my compressor, it actually creates a vacuum and pulls air out of cooling system.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Folks,
I bought the Schwaben coolant tool from ECS and plan to use it on my newly acquired C4S 2002. Has anyone used this tool on a 996?
I don't think I have the right adapters to connect to the coolant tank. There are a couple rubber stopper cones that might work. The manual for this tool is awful. I expected more from
Schwaben.
Thank you for any thoughts you have on this tool.
I have a cheap Chinese version, but mine uses a large rubber stopper cone on the coolant tank. I expect this one would be the same. That adaptor you’ve shown looks like it’s for a specific application.
I have the tool, and I used it post-waterpump swap last year. Total game-changer for filling the coolant without air pockets.
Google a few videos for instructions. One note, I had to loosen the engine lid from its driver side hinge to fit the tool.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone. The main reason I was confused was due to the use of compressed air. I did read up on the Venturi effect, and after a quick test with my compressor, it actually creates a vacuum and pulls air out of cooling system.
When I do the project, I will take a few pics and update this post.
Thanks.
I have an 2003 C2 and I used it on mine a couple of months ago. It's pretty much impossible to get it to seal correctly w/o moving some stuff around. I can't remember exactly what I did but the mechanism for the rear wing is in the way of you getting a straight-in shot. If you have the thing leaning too much to one side, the rubber grommet won't get a good enough seal.
I managed to get it to work fine on the first 2nd try--you need to remember to follow the instructions to open and close the correct valves at the right time. The first time I accidentally left the wrong valve open and bled off the vacuum before I started refilling. Also make sure you have enough coolant available so you can keep the fill hose submerged in your bucket. I had just drained very new coolant to replace a couple of hoses, so I had drained it into a 5 gallon bucket. I just added a tiny little bit of distilled water to that bucket of coolant to make sure I had enough volume to keep the hose submerged.
