Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys, My nearly mint 996 has only one real noticeable flaw...tons of rock chips and a couple scrapes on the bottom of the front bumper. I am going to get a couple of quotes to have it resprayed. I think it's too much to touch up, plus I want it to look excellent/brand new. What sort of cost am I looking at? I'm in the LA market. Thanks for any guidance!!

POST 2Original post

Unless you "know somebody", you're probably looking at $800 - $1000 for a decent shop to do it. I had mine done for $500 by "a friend of a friend"... guess what? It's going back for a second try... I have no doubt that the guy CAN do a great job (I've seen some of his work that's great) but he certainly didn't get it right the first time around (there are thin spots where you can see the primer through the color coat)... He's agreed to "make it perfect", but I've already got a bad taste in my mouth...

Take your bumper off. Take it to my friend Ralph and Gail who own bellsautosport.com.

No matter were you live, good work just costs more, when it comes to paint thats really true, the labor and prep takes time and the longer that takes the more money it will be,thats just how it is.there are some shops that turn cars over very fast, those places are generally interested in volumes of work and not so much in doing it the right way, witch involves generally more labor and prep that amounts to time etc.here in the new york and long island areas ive gone to places with my car,and they wont get involved with exotics and or porsche cars, they no us owners are generally into are cars in a special way and its not worth it to them if they do some mediocre job( witch is there specialty) and youre not satisfied ,it becomes a pain in the butt as they dont want to get married to any job.go to a shop look around see the type of cars they are working on,keep in mind alot of people dont care about their cars even if they are expensive vehicles,(leased etc) but at least the body shop is attracting that kind of customer, when it comes to certain materials that require painting its even more important that the prep is correct,i.e polyurethane and some plastics witch OEM aerokit parts are made from, those parts require heating prior to painting for proper adhesion etc.etc i could go on and on ,bottom line you generally get what you pay for in the body shop/paint world,so ask around talk to other porsche maniacs! somebody should no the guy who charges more but does it right the first time,as far as cost and what people on rennlist think is either cheap or expensive is relative to where they live more or less, for instance i live in new york city witch as you know is generally more expensive than for instance oklahoma, doesnt mean you cant get the same quality work done, just less choices,so take your time, and im sure you will find some....good luck! __________________

I scratched the rear cover and had it repaired and resprayed for $700. Matches perfectly. I also removed it and reinstalled it myself so that may help a little.

POST 7Original post

I had mine resprayed last year by a reputable body shop. The total was about $1,200. It looks perfect now, and I’m glad I did it.

POST 8Original post

Red is one of the hardest colours to match so be prepared that the respray might not match the car.

POST 9Original post

if you are going to the expense of respraying it, might as well also put a clear PPF over it for long term protection.

POST 10Original post

I just did this job a couple of months ago. Had the bumper off to service and clean the radiators and added metal screens to the inlets. Took it to a place I've been going to for years for auto and tractor painting. Cost me $650 and I got to talk about auto detailing and the rest of the paint on my car. My bumper was in much worse shape than yours appears.

POST 11Original post

I paid $700 to have my front bumper and side skirts painted.

POST 12Original post

If you drive the car daily, I'd leave it...That first rock chip will happen soon after you repaint it!

I was quoted $1,463 by a very reputable place. Still, it seems high to me. Anyone have thoughts? Or other recommendations in Los Angeles?
