The DME was replaced because it had a per fault for the MAFF sensor which wouldn't go was giving out 0vs to the MAFF.

Hi I have a 996 1998 At the mo it's a non start . It turns over chugs a bit then stops. A few times I have had it started by spraying brakec in the intake . ​​​it runs fine then as long as you have your foot on throttle if it drops below 1000 it cuts out but above that revs freely Some times it will start and rev but will.get to 60c water temp then just stop. But manly now it will turn over chugs a bit and stop it has had new MAFF new DME new crank sensor . Now I'm.stuck.. Any ideas thanks very much Mark

Okay..I'll bite. Any Check Engine Light and codes? Why was the DME/ECU replaced and was it programmed to the car by a Porsche dealer? Critical part of replacing it.

Hi nope no EML light the crank sensor comes up some times a fault . The DME was replaced because it had a per fault for the MAFF sensor which wouldn't go was giving out 0vs to the MAFF. So new DME to cure that hoping that was the problem . The fault has gone but still no good. Turns over not fire. Give it a bit if break clean it starts and runs lovely about 1500 ISH rpm let it drop and it just stalls and won't start untill you give it some.brake cleaner .yes Porsche reprogrammed it

I assume u mean starting fluid not brake clean. So it runs on ether that usually means u have spark and air but no fuel. Im guessing u hsve a fuel delivery issue.

I would check fuel pressures, check for vacuum leaks, and check the idle control valve. Although I doubt fuel pressure is the issue if the engine runs on its own at 1500 RPM.

New DME? Make sure it's programmed correctly for your car. I was temporarily running my 986 Boxster on a 996 coded DME and when it got hot it stalled. Recoded to a 986 now runs fine. Might just be the case here although sounds like you might have a few issues at play. Also, mine had no codes which was painful.
