Leading evidence: 'Use flywheel last time i worked' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean oil is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Another thought - what you are hoping to do is remove the flange so you can inspect the bearing.
Replace flange seal/o ring if it gets compromised .good luck

Sooooo I went to remove my ims cover on my EPS bearing , pulled the tensioners then proceeded to loosen off the central nut , at first its turning then the centre spindle starts to turn aswel, no problem I think , I'll just hold that with a flat driver and use a deep ring spanner one the nut to back it off.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys
So whilst I got my engine out (again!!) Doing my flywheel and clutch, as I re used my old flywheel last time I worked on the engine thinking it was ok , only for it to start chattering, anyway another story!
But no!! as I turn the nut it just backs the driver out of the slot , if I try to re tighten again, same deal. So now I'm stuck really stuck , wish I hadn't bothered messing with it now should have just left it alone !
Only thing I can think is a little bit of heat on that centre flange nut?
Anybody had this or similar , any help much appreciated !!
I have no clue how to help, but maybe read the instructions for installation and reverse. Why do you want to remove the flange anyway? Is it leaking?

Hi Joe
No , I saw an article on another forum of a failed bearing so got paranoid and decided just to do an inspection whilst doing my clutch , wish I hadn't now, not sure if the centre but has just been turning on the spindle and hasn't actually loosened as the nut still seems tight to the flange , might just leave it lol
And read Step 20 of the installation instructions...turn the center stud CCW or counter clockwise. Is it possible the center stud has counter clockwise threads? I have no idea but EPS will know.
If it's a 'full' EPS installation with oil feed the bearing is feed non-filtered oil from the oil pump area. Doesn't matter if the bearing is big and beefy, debris will start eating away at it. How fast depends on how clean your oil is.
Think your right joe , the centre bolt is Loctited up so it's fixed to the centre shaft that's just spinning and I can't get enough hold on the centre stud with a flat screwdriver to break it away it's just spinning with the bolt, going to leave it be!
If the nut is “spinning” along with the (support shaft) eps term. The torque value on that nut is uncertain. The torque on that nut sets the location of that Intermediate shaft(technically speaking). If that nut had threadlocker applied to it,you will have to break the bond I.e. heat gun. And if you do that you should replace the flange seal/o ring if it gets compromised .Good luck with your endeavor.
Thanks I will bear in mind , it only turns with a spanner it's not loose and spinning by hand it just all turns together with a spanner , probably the lock tight hopefully, I'll try a bit of heat and give it another go !
Another thought - what you are hoping to do is remove the flange so you can inspect the bearing. It is more than likely you won't be able to inspect anything since the bearing is seated far in the hole. Again, unless you are going to do a replacement, I would leave it alone. And if you apply too much heat, your going to ruin the O-ring seals. Just my opinion...
