Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I sold the 2003 C4S and bought a 2004 turbo tip. I hope that there are no objections to me posting it here as its a bit more lively here than in the 996 turbo forum. First real chance to take some piccies; excuse the arty stuff! anyway here goes...

POST 2Original post

I just cannot fathom why anyone would ever buy a turbo car with an auto trans...

POST 3Original post

Its because every gear in the turbo is the same. Its not like my boxster where you needed to shift to stay in the power band. On the street you're in the power band in every gear all the time just mash on the pedal.

POST 4Original post

Great car, I like the color combo. Ignore the tip haters. Tip is extremely well matched to the turbo.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 11440875, 11440906, 11440906

No spool down on the turbos on upshifts, keeps you right on the power. Thanks, me too

POST 7Original post

Great looking car. Very few 996 models are found with the Boxter Red Leather. I love mine. Enjoy your ride and stay with us! John '03 Targa, Boxter Red Leather.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11440937

Thanks! The interior of the C4S was black, the Boxster Red in the turbo seems to make the cabin feel more roomy.

POST 10Original post

Gorgeous, your turbo, your lady and your yacht

POST 12Original post

Congrats! I'm am on way to walking the same path to a turbo.

POST 13Original post

I agree that silver and red combo pops. Great looking car. Would take a tiptronic turbo in a heartbeat.

POST 14Original post

you obviously have extreme patience...my gf puts her feet on the dashboard and shes almost tossed out the car...but to sit on the front and possibly scratch the paint? thats a capital offence for sure. nice car

POST 15Original post

Nice car and color combo. I never really understood the pdc on a 911 though. On a Cayenne, yes. Maybe the rear spoiler obstructs part of the view backing up?

POST 16Original post

nice TT - some people like tiptronic/some 6 speed - just like music, to each his own - enjoy!

Thanks, I'm happy with them; acquired in this order: wife, turbo, still working on the yacht! Thanks, Dennis. Thanks, I thoroughly recommend it: choose wisely. Soft jeans, no studs and she doesn't complain when I buy stuff. Thanks. Having had it, I think I would always specify now if buying new car. Makes life easy. Agreed, I am equally at home in either; with the Mercedes tips in the later 996s, take the time to learn how to use them properly and and they are very rewarding.

POST 18Original post

What a nice upgrade with the turbo. The interior color is nice to see for a change. Very artistic pics. If you like the tip....that's all that really matters isn't it?

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11441974

Yep, I'm loving the turbo and I'm sure it works whatever transmission is in it.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are the old and the new together. ...and the old and the new and the older still!

POST 21Original post

Loving the photo of the two cars together. Both are my favorite of the 996 line up. Congrats and you have a beautiful car with a great color combination. Cheers

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Bernard, my favourites too.

POST 23Original post

It's OK Mcbit - you can stay right here in the NA 996 forum. Plenty of us in here are interested in the TT version, so at least I'm interested in your experiences. I suspect others would value your input as well. For starters, I'd love to see some more interior shots.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK will do some interior shots.

POST 25Original post

Nice looking TT! Enjoy it, I've been loving mine for the past few months. Cool interior

POST 28Original post

Nice looking car. How's it feel vs the 996 C4S - you had before?

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11446828

Back end is noticeably heavier and softer but the turbo still handles very well. The extra 100HP is an absolute blast

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11443479

So eventually I have the turbo somewhere near where I want it to be, after a blown turbo, turbo upgrade, remap and an engine rebuild. Time for some more pictures especially of the interior as promised earlier. Apologies in advance for the arty stuff.

POST 32Original post

Wow. The interior is different than what I imagined it would be. Did the black seat inserts come from the factory?

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11822919

From the factory as far as I'm aware.

POST 34Original post

Was it originally sold in the UAE? There is some crazy car culture there. I remember in 1991 when i was there for the Gulf War on a port visit to Dubai. I'm standing on the pier waiting for a tender back out to the Nimitz. I look across this freaking huge totally empty parking lot and see a guards red 930. I walk about 300 yards over there and it looked like it had been sitting there baking in the sun for months. It was still sitting there on my next visit a couple of months later. I always wondered what the deal was and subsequently what happened to that car.

I was living in Dubai in 2008 when the music stopped. The airport was full of expensive cars with keys on the dashboard with a note saying "sorry, gotta run."

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 11823807

Yes, originally sold in Abu Dhabi and I purchased it from the 2nd owner in Dubai. 1991 just after GW1 was when I started my first stint. Used to meet up with a lot of you carrier chaps at the Seaman's Mission in Jebel Ali and the Highland Lodge in Dubai. Nice cars have been being abandoned in Dubai for as long as I can remember, there have always been reasons to leave in a hurry. Something as simple as a bounced cheque will land you in jail.

POST 38Original post

mcbit - Just for the record, you've got a gorgeous car. I like unique. Silver on black is a great color combo on any German car, but it's pretty standard. Your car has style!

POST 39Original post

Wow - an Enzo abandoned!?! Hey, we used to go play ultimate frisbee against some American and Brit ex-pats at the American School field when we were in port in Dubai summer of 1991. Any chance you were one of them? I also remember taking over the Hilton's beach club during port visits. Lastly, I remember standing on the deck of the carrier when in the Gulf and always seeing quite a few sea snakes pass by, yet I don't remember any problem with them at the beach. My imagination? By the way, important safety tip, the Iranians get really pissed if you fly a combat aircraft over their islands in the Gulf (don't ask me how I know).

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 11828655, 11828690

Why thank you sir, I'm kind of partial to it myself. Didn't even know of the existence of Ultimate Frisbee back the, I was a rugby player. I did do the 4th of July party at the Hilton beach club that year. Things have changed a lot since then and a lot of places no longer exist. I can imagine the Iranians getting a little irate from being overflown, a friend of my then boss was locked up in Tehran for 2 years after being caught on his sailboat off of one of the Iranian occupied UAE islands.

POST 41Original post

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Your car looks great. The interior really makes it stand out. I can not imagine anybody not loving the tiptronic transmission, after experiencing it. I am sure that it would be perfect in the turbo. Every time that I am in traffic, I miss my tiptronic. The only time that I really appreciate the 6-speed is on winding roads.

POST 43 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys I'm happy driving either a tip or a manual on the twisties, but the tip is certainly more convenient in traffic.
