Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New to me 99 C4 with 135K on it. Just did the oil sump and spin on upgrade and filled with JG DT40. My OP is between 4 and 5 above 3K and idles between 1 and 2 fully warmed up. Is this considered "normal"? Thanks for putting up with the Newby questions

POST 3Original post

At warm temp, mine sits at around 1.8 - 2.0. I'd say it's normal. 1 is a bit on the low end.

POST 4Original post

How new is the sending unit on the pressure gauge? If it is getting long of tooth it might be reading lower than its true pressure, more so at idle.

POST 5Original post

I'd also say it was normal, and below is what Porsche say:

POST 6Original post

My 99 reacts the same as yours. with 72500 miles on it.

POST 7Original post

36000k miles. 2003 C2 Motul 300v power 2 at idle Anything over 1800 rpm gives 4.5 or better. Motul 8100 x cess 1.8 at idle 4 at 2000 rpm 4.5 or better above 2500 rpm

POST 8Original post

Trick question for some as only DT40 users need apply as oil pressure can vary with various brands/weight. OP wants to make apples to apples comparison here...

POST 9Original post

My input above was wrong for idle. Closer to 1.7 warm at idle. Has Mobil one 0w40.

I would expect the viscosity of any 40 weight oil at normal operating temperature to be more consistent than the wear across a large number of engines.

For the most part, yes. However I've seen dt40 readings in the past to suggest otherwise.
