Sure, they are not Z rated summer tires, but it's way better than me changing the wheels every season!

If I ever find a nice set of summer wheels, I'll do the same thing with my current twists and go from running all seasons to a dedicated summer set of wheels/tires and a dedicated winter wheels/tires.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got around to snapping a picture of my "new" winter wheel/tire setup. Haven't seen a ton of Rennlisters go with this option - so I figured I'd share my setup and experiences so far. A few usage facts for me: I bought the car to drive it, year round I have a beat up truck that I'll drive when salt is on the roads or when snow is relatively heavy I like things reasonable stock Pot holes are common where I am I chose to swap the 18" MY02's and summer rubber for: 17" OEM C4 narrow body wheels (kind of like modern day fuchs) Conti Extreme Contact DWS all seasons (DWS = dry, wet, snow) The wheels were beat to hell. Original finish was very worn, lots of curbing, etc... I chose to have the wheels powder coated from a great local shop and went with a dark metallic (kind of a darker OEM titanium finish). The wheels were finished with a clear coat - and turned out great. The tires react exactly as the tirerack review states. Soft, quiet, great cold weather and wet grip. I had them on some very light snow - performed like a great brand new set of all seasons (not like dedicated winter tires, but close). Here's a photo - final coat of paint is drying on the C4 center caps, my MY02 caps are shown in the picture. 17" C4 wheels - freshly powder coated and wrapped in Conti DWS tires.

POST 2Original post

Nice to see another 911 ready for winter driving.

POST 3Original post

I went with the Conti DWS tires year-round. Haven't driven it in snow yet, but so far so good. Sure, they are not Z rated summer tires, but it's way better than me changing the wheels every season!

POST 4Original post

Looks great! If I ever find a nice set of summer wheels, I'll do the same thing with my current twists and go from running all seasons to a dedicated summer set of wheels/tires and a dedicated winter wheels/tires. If you don't mind sharing, how much did the powder coating of the old wheels cost? They came out great.

POST 5Original post

You made so-so looking wheels look attractive on that car. Atypically fine, indeed!

A friend runs the shop where these wheels were refinished. I paid about $350 for sanding, cleaning/prepping, powder coating, and a final spray of clear coat.
