Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The last few days I've been struggling with Tirerack to come up with winter tires that fit my factory 17s. Lo and behold, someone local pops up with a 17" wheel/tire set (ZCW wheels), 255/45R17 tires back, 215/50R17 front, but they came off a 997 C4S. No offset info. Will I be able to slap these on my 996? This would save me a lot of hassle. One million thank yous! Dave

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah that surprised me too, but I don't know jack about 997 wheels (and barely anything about 996 wheels )

POST 4Original post

I think we need to know the offsets to know if they will work.

POST 5Original post

Carrera 2 or 4? From what I have read the Carrera 4's don't tolerate mis sized tires. As for the wheels fitting, without knowing the offset can't tell. For winter tires the only 17's avail in the correct are Vredestein. You can searchthe web and see if anyone has any. It took 6 weeks to get mine. Other options are to go to 18's or search ebay.

POST 6Original post

They should not be a problem with the 4wd as the difference in circumference is less than 3% front to rear. This DiscountTireDirect calculator is a useful tool for evaluating tire changes.
