Could there be issues with my wiring / should I diagnose this further or should I just replace the starter considering the age and that heat is anyway screwing it up ?

I did run into a hose coming off but was able to sort that out thanks to the great folks on this forum.

I have a new to me recently 996 C4 with 105k miles. My car starts perfectly fine when the engine is cold. After some spirited driving when the engine is hot, the starter screeches/grinds when I try to start the car. It starts in a couple of cranks in both cases. Based on the reading I did most people with starter going bad generally have issues with cold starts which does not seem to be my case. Could there be issues with my wiring / should I diagnose this further or should I just replace the starter considering the age and that heat is anyway screwing it up ?

Lots of threads here about this, most hot start problems are the starter, however the wiring harness to the starter, engine ground, etc. could also be problematic.

Aaaa... Thank you for confirming my doubts. Any idea on how to diagnose this ? Do I need to lift if I want to check at the voltage at different points with a multimeter ?

As soon as my car showed any issues starting, I replaced the starter. I had a similar issue and it almost left me stranded at the gas station. Replaced the starter and all was good. If you have been living with an aged starter for a while, you'll be grinning when you first start it with a replacement, night and day difference in starter urgency. Really no need for testing anything. Your starter bendix is bad. Replace starter with a new starter, not rebuilt. You can get one, Bosch, off Amazon.
