Suggestion
Check your wheel widths, this will help determine what size tire you should be using.

Suggestion
The 19 inch version on the other hand is a much better tyre and could be recommended after the PS4s.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Currently it has some older Pzeros on it.
235/40/18
315/30/18
After looking at the price and the reviews of Pzeros. I think im swithcing!!
Esp the cost of 315s!
What size do you guys recommend?
I see stock is 225 front and 265 backs.
Will i notice a big difference switching back to stock sizes? or how about switching to like 285 in the back to keep some of the width?
Brand wise.
I was looking at
Dunlop Doreza
Michelin pilot sport ss or ps2
Toyo T1 Sport.
the shop i called also recommended Kingforest KF550.. which seem like a cheap offbrand. but decent reviews.
Thanks all
I think you should call a different shop and delete the one you called from contacts, call / internet history, and head.
Please don’t put kingforest tires on your car. Sumitomo IMO is a good budget tire and something like Michelin Pilot sport SS, PS2 or PS4S will really compliment the good handling traits of the car.
Im an advocate of fit as much rubber under the arches as you can, tires are an investment that often pay you back more than any other investment in the car.
hehehe
I def wasnt going the route of kingforest.
The 315s are beefy. Seems to run fine with them. I guess i could scale down to 285 ot 295..vs all the way down to stock 265
I was considering getting some Nankang all-seasons for my set of 17" spare wheels for winter time.
At first I thought, heck no I'm not running a chinese tire.
Then I saw some Ring Taxi's were running Nanking performance tires at the Nrburgring with great results.
I didn't want to spend much because the all-seasons would probably be on the car for 3 weeks out of the entire year.
We rarely get temps below 50 during the winter, but when we do occasionally have temps down into the mid 30s, I hate driving on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
I worry about damaging them.
Now with COVID, I'm wondering if I'll do any winter driving at all.
If you want an awesome set of tires, go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 225/40R18 in front and 285/35R18 in back!
hey Tex,
how much of a sidewall diff did you see with the 285/40 in the rear? I have the 285/30 (hankook ventus v12 evos). Ill be putting new tires on later this year and a little more sidewall would be nice with the **** altanta roads. the 30 is pretty small, figured a 35 or 40 would work well. I have the same wheels as you...
and to OP the hankooks are a good reasonbly priced tire. I have run them on track on my e30 for years. Im really impressed with the 7yo ones that came with my 911. only 10k miles, they are starting to get hard tho... i am considering buying another set when i replace.
My daily commute went from 52 miles to 40 feet.
No daily driving for me.
If the weather is bad, like the last few days, I don't have to drive my 996 anywhere.
I used to put 1000 miles on my 996 each month.
Now I've put 1000 miles on mine since February.
Actually it had 285/35 on it when I purchased it.(sorry, looks like I transposed the numbers when I originally typed the sizes)
So I don't know what the difference would be.
If Michelin PS4s are available in your sizes I would go with them. No brainer
Otherwise P-zero ... yes ... I am of the opinion most of the reviews are not fair. They need to be balanced with care. But if they are good they are one of the best N-rated tyres for your car available. Most of the reviews complain about thread wear. But for me this is a minor concern. On a Porsche you need a tyre which rides good!
Bridgestone S02a also pretty good and sportive tyre with a stiff shoulder. I notice I check more often pressures too see if they are not too high. Otherwise perfect balance and feedback
The michelin PS2 In 18inch have for my feeling a too soft sidewall. High speed stability on Autobahn is not best. Sweaty hands. The 19 inch version on the other hand is a much better tyre and could be recommended after the PS4s. I see the PS2 as a good all round tyre. With a nice trade off for comfort, grip, wet performance and wear.
Myself I have Yokohama AD08r (235/40/18 295/30/18) as summer tyre and have a set of Michelins PS2 for winter here. (Not too cold but wet over here).
The AD08r is not in production anymore I heard.
Toyo T1 I could also consider. They make overall good tyres. And for the price could be a very competitive package.

Hmmmm. Hope you're wrong. I replaced my MPSC2's with these. The cup2's were awesome but I wanted something more road trip friendly. Haven't mounted to car yet. Rears are 295. The 4S don't come in my size.
I noticed it very well at speeds around 100mph and above. Indeed pretty illegal in most countries. Also with spirited driving and cornering I noticed the softer character.
Tires always get balanced to perfection with a hunter road force balancer.
Michelin provides one of the best race tires on the track (PSC2), but their road tires I often dont like it at all. I mean when on a performance car. Side walls too soft, shoulders too round. With the arrival of the Pilot Super Sport this is different and the PS4s is a continuation of this.
For the PS2 with spirited driving and higher speeds I noticed there are other brands that perform better. Surprisingly the 19inch PS2 does not show these behaviour. Is it a slightly different construction.l? Probably the lower sidewall gives the 19inch just the extra rigidity needed to come into the right performance sweet spot?
Does it mean the PS2 is a bad tire? No. I think it is a very good allrounder. I have a set of them for the winter. And happy with them. For sure they are more comfortable then the AD08r (a road oriented semi slick) so when changing to the PS2 for winter it is always a joy as the ride is less harsh, less noisy. But these are not the parameters that are first on my list of requirements for a 911.
And that makes advising tires to someone difficult as we all have different requirements, assessments, ...
Check your wheel widths, this will help determine what size tire you should be using. If using stock 10 rear wheel, I wouldnt go any wider than 285. I put on 295s this year, but notice the change in feel of the extra bulge and wouldnt do it again. Again, if 10 rear wheels, Id stick with 265, 275 or 285s.
I've got older 7yr old Michelin Pilot Sport's (the predecessor to the 4S) on my BMW 335i and Continential Extreme Contact DWS 06/s on my MB ML350.
The Michelins are summer tires and the Continentals are all season tires. Both do what they were designed to do very well but I never drive my BMW or 996 in the rain/snow.
So, the only tire I'd consider for my 996 is the summer Michelins Pilot 4s that I'll install on the BMW when the current set needs to be changed.
Unless you are planning on doing track events, I would stick with OEM wheels and tire sizes if you have the OEM wheels.
You could also call Tire Rack and pic their brain.
+996 on the continental extreme contact (dw) in post #10. Way quieter than the pilot sport cup tires it came with and Im at 24k miles and the rears are just starting to show wear. Michelins literally felt like riding on the rims and rattled my teeth.
It makes no sense to compare those Michelins with the continental. They are a completely different tire.
Overall a worn out tire is also more harsh then a new one.
Looks like my orginal measurement was with the lip. Says 10
A neighbor just took off a set of continental pro contract
235 40 18 and 265 40 18.
any reason why this wouldnt work? 265 / 40 is a little taller than 315 x 30
