Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check every single wire back there' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check every single wire back there' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I just got home from a relaxing 2 week vacation. I was looking forward to a nice ride in my 996. Everything fired up nice. Got the temp up to what it should be and drove aggressively for a few miles.
Then the dreaded CEL pops up. Oh crap time to use the icarsoft I purchased. Image of reading attached.
So I do my research. Find out a few approaches. I figured I would do the easiest first. Unplug and then plug back in the O2 sensor. Once I educated myself where it was located to do the reconnection I find this-
The engine is hot and the car is tucked away for the night. My guess would be that while the car was sitting for two weeks the dozens of chipmunks who live my yard decided to look at my engine bay for some goodies. The white wire has been shredded as you can see and it is also completely free of the plug. No doubt it is causing a short. I need to unplug it and get a better look to see how the other wires look.
My question now is what should I do to repair this?
I am not positive this is the correct connection for the 02 sensor. Could someone confirm this for me please?
I am adding another question. Could anything else cause this aside from a critter chewing on it?
I took one more image as I noticed the wires coming from behind the connection have a white chalky look. Is this normal?
Does this connection run to this? I dont know if its a plug but I see two dots. Are these for alignment purposes?
Is the best avenue for repair to source a new plug and run it to the possible plug below the two dots?
I am posting in separate threads to try to be clear on what I see instead of one long confusing thread.
I hope this is ok.

To fix the chewed wire, any hookup wire of the same gauge should be fine. The "chalky" white stuff on the O2 sensor wire is "normal" (they don't start out that way, but generally look like that over time). Good luck
