Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I started the removal of the transmission in my 2004 C4S today. One of the first things to remove after the under body trays are off the car is the aluminum cross bar under the trans. It's held on by 2 15mm bolts. They were very cranky coming out the whole way so I knew this was a problem. They are both messed up. Pics are attached. Has anyone else had this issue? Recommendations?
I would re-tap the holes and replace the all bolts.
Use pre-encapsulated bolts, or use threadlocker.
If they dont feel like they will hold, drill and tap larger and mark the new sizes on the aluminum crossbar.
Anytime I modify a bolt hole from factory, I mark it for the next guy.
Sometimes the next guy is me years later.
Tapping them out is a good place to start. New bolts as well.
I had excellent results from putting JB Weld in stripped out threads on a Mercedes-Benz aluminum head. it was a $3K or $4K part and 6 weeks to get one. I smeared JB Weld in the threads and let it cure overnight while the head was on the engine. Came back the next day and tapped out the threads as described above. After numerous passes there was enough meat there to put in the ball pin mount. The car ran for another 75K miles.
Years later a mechanic took out the ball pin mount and was surprised at how bad the threads looked and put it back in.
The other choice, and most correct, is to put in a Hellicoil. You'll have real threads.
The good news is that this is not a super critical location. Could be in the engine block or something that needs a lot of torque.

^^^ This ^^^ is the proper choice, or if you want to be **** about it, take it to a machine shop, have them weld and re-tap the messed up holes. Also, when you put it back together, put some aluminum based anti-seize on those bolts - steel bolts in aluminum are always trouble (micro encapsulated or not) - don't put "thread locker" on them - it'll just make it worse...
