In states where you must pass smog check, they would fail you for having a code.

And it needs repair otherwise the code will not go away.

From what I read was to post your numbers using durametric.

If you actuate the variator using your Durametric and find that there is no "clicking" sound at the valve cover where the solenoid is, you can likely assume that the solenoid is bad or the wiring is bad.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Thank you in advance. Just wondering if i could get some help with this error code. I have a durametric. Here are the numbers I am getting.
(2000 996 150k miles new engine about 11k miles Vertex Auto IMS solution)
Idle 3000 rpm
Position 1 deviation 6.5 6.5
Position 2 deviation 3.03 3.03
Actual angle bank 1 0-.60 0.86
Actual angle bank 2 0-.45 1.08
Just wondering if I need to take now or is something I need to closely monitor?
Thank You
Hi Yelcab
I did a search on error code 1341 and read multiple post before posting. From what I read was to post your numbers using durametric. I believe that some people had a ability to do some diagnostics with the numbers. That what i was hoping.
Thanks
Your engine throwing that code means the variocam actuator pad is likely bad and needs replacement. You can also test to see if the solenoid itself is bad by listening to the clciking noise when you actiaate the variocam. And it needs repair otherwise the code will not go away. That is about all we can tell from the code, and it's bank 1. You would need to open the valve cover and do more visual inspection.

From what I read I thought its throwing the code because I am over the 6+- factory tolerance for cam deviation. I am only .5% over but over. That is why I posted the numbers because I am slightly over. If my actuator was bad I think I would have more deviation in my "actual angle" between bank 1 and bank 2. Or if something was sticking the numbers would show at 3000 rpm and Idle. I believe this is why its good to post the actual numbers from a durametric I understand "It could be potential causes:
– Short to ground
– Actuator faulty
– Open circuit in triggering wire
– Open circuit in B+ supply"
The CEL means there is a problem. In states where you must pass smog check, they would fail you for having a code. So you must fix it. There is a Variocam actuator (not the same one) for each bank and bank 1 always fails first.
Check your oil and oil filter, if you find green bits of seal material in it, no matter how much, the whole variocam actuator has to be changed. Quite expensive a job and needs special tools.
If you are seeing 6 degrees of variation even at idle, then your cam pads are worn down to the knubs. They need to be replaced. $1,000 less than the job above, same labor.
If you actuate the variator using your Durametric and find that there is no "clicking" sound at the valve cover where the solenoid is, you can likely assume that the solenoid is bad or the wiring is bad. There are more bad solenoids and bad wirings, so you can change that solenoid out. That is a bit easier but the cam cover needs to come off. About $500 for this repair.
Pick your poison, but there are your choices.
Thanks yelcab
It has only 10,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. Seems a little soon to have the pads out. Just trying to diagnose the problem. I could clear the code and pass emissions. It takes a little time for the light to come on. I would like to try and fix the problem myself if i don't have to crack the engine open. With no deviations I don't believe its the variocam actuator. I will check the soleniod. But the its just little over the 6% allowable, I don't think its that.
