Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'front tire alignment' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'front tire alignment' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check belts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've removed tire and checked for lateral play- can't tell difference from other side.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Searched posts for similar problem but I'd appreciate any feedback.
Whining noise when moving (no noise at start up or idle), starts at about 20mph on passenger side front, only when weather dips below about 50 degrees F. Gets pretty loud. Can even hear it at near highway speeds. Can't hear it much past 80mph but I think due to road noise drowning it.
Took it to dealer (Westmont Napleton Porsche), the clowns think it's tires or ball bearing without any testing and tried to charge me $170 for diagnosis. I diagnosed that they have a loose screw.
This drives me nuts (I store it for winter), until summer comes then I forget about it again. Someone has to have had similar issue?
Does the noise go away when you turn the air off completely? Reason is something with my air circulation system wines louder when it gets cold. Wish I knew exactly what it was, prob a fan....
Yeah I check for that- same sound with air on or off. It almost sounds like some metal contact whine- brakes are fine though. Thanks for your thoughts.
Are you sure you are not hearing the cooling fan for the radiators. The one on the drivers side may have a bad bearing. Check your serpentine belt for wear as well.
With no noise stopped but with some noise present when moving then I want to say there is something caught between the rotor and the splash shield of the passenger side front brake. However, that the noise doesn't start until about 20mph is a bit odd. My experience (1st time a twig was caught, the 2nd time a rock was caught) with something caught in the brake is the noise is present as soon as the car moves. By 20mph the noise at least in one case was intolerable. (Rock caught between the shield and the rotor).
So a wheel bearing then becomes a more likely explanation.
However, tire alignment is also under suspicion. How do the tread blocks of the front (and while you are groping tires, the rear tires, too) feel? Any signs of abrasion, feathering?
I had a minor alignment issue with the front wheels/tires of my Turbo that at highway speeds had me thinking wheel bearing, so much so I backtracked 140 miles to the OKC Porsche dealer to have the car checked out. It turned out to be front tire alignment.
Oh, I assume with the A/C off the radiator fan not running you do not hear the noise?
So, if the noise is not from a radiator fan, if the tires feel ok and if the wheel is removed and the brake hardware checks out ok and there is nothing found caught between the splash shield and the rotor and there is no trash caught in the pads, then what is left is the front wheel bearing.
If it's the wheel bearing, I would assume it's heard regardless of weather temp?- it only comes about in cold weather. I've removed tire and checked for lateral play- can't tell difference from other side. I hear the noise with the entire air/fan on or off. I will check the belts for wear as suggested.
The fact that it only comes about when cold, as if some metal shrinkage creates some unwanted contact keep crossing my thoughts. Anyone know any reputable experienced Porsche mechanic in Illinois (Elmhurst area)?
Just turn the front wheels while on jack stand to duplicate noise? Not sure how fast I can turn wheel manually- rear wheel drive. Can you explain your thoughts?
