Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just make sure insurance has set your rate for a Carrera - not a S, as I understand the rate is a little higher...
Leading evidence: 'Set rate' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set rate' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I feel like I have come full circle. My first Porsche was a 1988 928S4 which I loved. I had a lot of good times on these boards in the early 00's hanging with other 928 owners. Sold it to get a 2000 Boxster to try to get the wife involved, but it was a no-go. Got back in a 1992 968S and loved it too, but ...
The bug bit me and I jumped all over a 1999 996 C2 Friday, and I feel like I am right back at home! It has all of the touring comforts of the 928S4, but updated and with a better power curve. I'm in love all over again!!!
One question though ... When I picked up my temporary insurance card today, it plainly says on it that the car is a 1999 996 Carrera "S" model. Are all Carrera's from that year "S" models, or did some joke put the wrong designation into the national vehicle database???

Pics added. These were the seller's pics. I have not had time to do some myself. The bumper is clean. There are some reflections that look like marks. It is very clean.
Welcome, I do not believe there is an "S" model available in 99' - post some pics of the car so we all can see your new love !
Call the insurance and ask them to clear it up - thats a simple way to resolve it -
Good for you...welcome to the water colled 911 forum. Glad to hear you have stayed with Porsches. How many miles on your new to you C2? Don't really know if Porsche made a 99 S or not.
Welcome!! Congrats on the 996!
Ia m pretty sure there was no "S" in 99, the first 996 based S was the C4S in 02 as far as I know.
Post some pictures!!!
Pics added. Glad I wasn't crazy on the "S" business. I just knew there was no such animal. I'll check with the agent and see if there is any insurance cost difference if they remove the "S" designation. The suspicious side of me thinks it might have been put there to add to the insurance costs.
I'm looking forward to participating on the boards and learning all I can!
Doug
welcome!
Looks like previous owner added some bits - updated gauge cluster, updated steering wheel, updated wheels, added some carbon fiber bits to interior and decided to call it a "S" - and somehow got carried over but the car does not appear to be a S as it not a wide body and there was no S in 1999.
But beautiful car!
Just make sure insurance has set your rate for a Carrera - not a S, as I understand the rate is a little higher...
Here is the response I got back from the insurance agent:
Hey Doug,
Based on the VIN number it is the "s" model. The other model that matches the vin is the cabriolet and that one is higher. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
Jennifer
hmmmm ....... looks like I asked one too many questions ...... now there's a dilemma ....
it may be time to call PCNA and get the VIN thing cleared up. they may be able to send information to your insurance company attesting there was no "S" model in 99.
His agent is saying Cab is higher $$ to insure than the S.
Maybe let sleeping dogs lie?
Although if there were any issues his carrier may deny the claim saying the car is a cab and should have been rated as a cab...
To avoid future problems I think it's always good to be honest with your insurance company. Your agent doesn't give a crap - he doesn't have to pay out. He just collects the commission. But your carrier can give you grief at claims time if you have an issue and they may say your car is a cabriolet - not a coupe "S".
Thanks for the pic, I've been wondering what black rims would look like on it.
RoadSession, I agree with you. I sent her an e-mail telling her and her response was "I don't think so. The Cabriolet is the most expensive model and it would probably say it somewhere on the car." I've already e-mailed back telling her that I would love to agree with her, but I am positive it is a cabriolet. LOL.
Welcome!
Pretty funny when your agent thinks that she knows your car better than you.
As others have said, the S was not made in the 99' model. As for the issue of if not being a cab, well, just call her up and tell her that you'd like to file a claim because someone stole the roof.
Just a quick update on the insurance issue --
The agent said the "S" in their system might mean "Standard." I told her it was a convertible, and she said that they have the "S" model in coupe or convertible, as well as the Cabriolet. The "S Convertible" premium is cheaper than the Cabriolet. LOL, so if you have State Farm insurance, be sure to opt for the "S Convertible" instead of the Cab!
Thanks for the welcome!
