Do people use hard tops more in the winter just because they know they won't be driving with the top down at all, or is there some advantage to it over the soft?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

44 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

awe - where should I start How about K&N CAI - total crap, tinny, poorly thought out and believed to cause loss of power and MAF problems (though the company HAS posted info claiming these are faulse claims) OR Maybe the little wing I ended up with (thats the GT2 wing some of you may not know of) OH YEA - and there was the OEM Turbo Muffler and cat set up (like the one in the picture) Anyhow, this might be fun - pics are good too Live and learn, post the things you learned NOT to buy

POST 2Original post

Still have that wing? I wonder if I could put it on my 944...

POST 3Original post

I thought I was upgrading when I bought what turned out to be a standard shift **** and boot. I have the sport shifter, but didn't realize it until after I bought the stock shift ****. In the closet it sits!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7062627

HEY - Stop Making Fun of ME!!! Thankfully NO - I sold the wing (at a substantial loss $) NEXT QUESTION PLEASE

POST 5Original post

Stupid... On a 996.... No not possible. (lol) Closest I can say is that I bought a 996 for my Boxster

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 7062707

Will a turbo exhaust fit on my C2?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7062762

awe - yea,... I think so

POST 8Original post

Man I forgot about the turbo exhaust. Too funny At least you never got stuck with any widebody offset wheels Ed!

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 7063468

I have a set of widebody hollow spokes... Of course I bought them for my 994 - which they didn't fit. I even knew there was a difference, but got confused while I was comparing offset #s!

POST 10Original post

Once bought a really nice carbon fiber exhaust for a 996, ended up it was for a Ducati. JK

POST 11Original post

Flashlight from a VW that plugs/charges on the cig lighter plug. Not stupid, just...dumb?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, this is for stupid ides, not dumb! BTW that flashlight sounds stupid

POST 13Original post

Ed, when I read the thread title I figured you would be on only one posting to this thread.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 7064020

how about the people who buys a 996 and never drives it....

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL - are you suggesting someone might write "I bought a 996, that was stupid...."

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 7064031

whoa, you're right! Then the 996 itself is the stupidest thing that was purchased.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 7063754

Thanks, it qualifies as stupid!

POST 20Original post

...Putting the cig. lighter flashlight in my wife's car now...

POST 21Original post

911 badged batwing from 40th, cost to much...waste of cash... but I do like it!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Man, that was really STUPID Marc !

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 7066011

BUT, it does FIT the car.

POST 24Original post

I almost bought two of those flash lights. I's drives mine !

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7066049

Define "FIT" - that wing is perfect in some circles uke: and with a little I think that exhaust would have made it haha

POST 28Original post

Hardtop for my cab. It has occupied the same space in my garage for two years. It just sits there staring at me and wondering when it will be allowed to go outside, just like my cats. Gina .

POST 29Original post

Heres one... though I cant get myself to do it, I likey!

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 7066483

Its a $140 plastic gas cap.... something that you wont really get to enjoy much...

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 7064383

That's gotta be a close winner... I've never seen welds crack just from looking at them...

POST 33Original post

Hey, I bought one of those flashlights--but it's OK because it is labelled "Porsche" and costs more. Actually, the dumbest thing I bought was this: When ordering new custom floormats, I also ordered the one that is made to fit the space under the rear window behind the back seats. HOWEVER, it does not fit if you have the Bose subwoofer . . . oops

POST 35Original post

If your hardtop is black I'll be happy to free up your garage space for you...

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This isn't titled "Pedal your Stupid Items off on another RL member" do you think it will work though.....

POST 38Original post

Snow tires! No....wait.... I bought those from you, Ed. I guess they're ok unless Ed posts, "the worst thing I bought was some snow tires, but I sold them." :-)

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 7066441

Ah ha ha ha ha! That was funny... Glad to hear it though....no hard top for me

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 7071949

Me too... although I *thought* I wanted one... Good to know... Rudy

POST 41Original post

Sorry -- but I think the hardtop is great for the winter. Quiet. During bad weather, I can use the Porsche dealer's free car wash (which I wouldn't do with the soft top up). Just great....but your enthusiasm may depend on where you live.

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

you scared me !!

POST 43Original post

Quotes source posts: 7066441, 7069903, 7071949, 7073218

That's another thing. Car is silver, top is white. Bought it to get it painted, was quoted $175, but never got around to it. Can't remember what I paid for it, any idea what they are worth? Live in Florida, car really doesn't come out during the hurricane (humid, rainy summer) season and the rest of the year I drive it with the top down. I suppose if I were using it as a daily driver I would have the hardtop on for the rainy months.

POST 44Original post

Quotes source post: 7073809

You all know the soft top is waterproof and you CAN drive in the rain, right? Do people use hard tops more in the winter just because they know they won't be driving with the top down at all, or is there some advantage to it over the soft?
