Suggestion
You know 928s better than I, but just as a reminder, a small fire extinguisher would be a great thing to have in the car on that trip, unless you're sure those fuel lines have been replaced recently.

None of this "Oh, the car ran beautifully with no mishaps whatsoever and it was so comfortable" that you get when you buy a 996 and drive it home.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought I'd cross-post over here. I'm picking up a 928, but the trip is long, and passing a lot of crowded areas, so I just wanted to mention over here I'll be going by.
95 to 287 to 78 to 81 through TN, then I 40 to I 30 and home. Yeehaa.
Good luck. You know 928s better than I, but just as a reminder, a small fire extinguisher would be a great thing to have in the car on that trip, unless you're sure those fuel lines have been replaced recently.
Any issues with 93 octane gas availability?
I was going to take my 996 from Upstate NY to Boulder last summer, but changed my mind and took Suburban.
Good thing, got into the midwest and discovered premium gas there was only 91 octane, not 93.
Went mostly I-80.
Curious, how do folks who plan long trips make sure there is 93 available?
Well, I've come to grief. If anyone is around Allentown PA, drop me a PM. I'm stuck in a Motel 6 and it won't fire at all. Cranks fine, I swapped some stuff but no fire so far. Oh well, it's not just a job, it's an adventure.
OK, John found it, the immobilizer was activated. The prev night I had to lock the doors from the inside, and close them, then to get in I had to crawl in the hatch. Which set the alarm. Sadly, the lamp in the alarm indicator, and the horn for the alarm have both been removed, so I was immobilized, but no audible or visual alarm, grrrrr.
So, I got it going, stopped at my sis house in Athens, TN then cleaned and fixed a few things on Sunday, and today I'm headed back for TX. Should be about 12 hours or a bit more, and I'll be safely back in the Republic. Car is running better all the time, however my back rear 'window'(cardboard and tape) blew off at about 90 while I was passing some trucks. No matter, offered a fine cool breeze for the ailing vent system to exit. Made it a bit more suitable.
Now that's a true classic car road trip. None of this "Oh, the car ran beautifully with no mishaps whatsoever and it was so comfortable" that you get when you buy a 996 and drive it home.
