Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

what we done so far is drop the 3.4 engine out of a 2001 996 C2 with egas and replaced the blown engine with a 3.6 engine out of a junked 2003 C4 996 with egas.
Leading evidence: 'Replace blown engine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace blown engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

yes here we go again folks !
I am trying to help a friend of mine who has tried to do this swap and now is stuck!
what we done so far is drop the 3.4 engine out of a 2001 996 C2 with egas and replaced the blown engine with a 3.6 engine out of a junked 2003 C4 996 with egas. Both cars where manual transmission if that matters?
The car would not start ! so we copied the soft ware from the 3.6 ECU and pasted it on to the 3.4 ECU the reason we could not swap ecu directly because the bunch plug connectors are different!
We are now at the stage where car starts and drives fine but lacks power !
it will not exceed 60mph although it will but will do it slowly it makes slow progress more like driving a 1.0 litre then a 3.6 cc
any advice what I need to do I emailed Perfect Power and asked them for SMT6 piggy back ecu module but they have not been very helpful. I have read people have put in a piggy back ecu on top of the 3.4 ECU and that fixes or sorts out the Vario cam PLUS issues.
If any one can shed more light on the topic and give me comprehensive reply that would be great.
I was also told the I might need to change the clocks and abs and HVAC controller and wire up a canbus between them all and also these plug ins are not straightforward as the connector blocks are different between the two engine types hence I need to cut a wire harness up from a 3.6 engine car and use the relevant bunch plugs chopped and re wired into my original loom ?
Doesn't sound like you transferred the 3.4 top end with the proper variocam to that the ecu requires. It won't work any other way unless you want to transfer over the entire wiring, ecu from a 3.6.
Also you can't just swap over the 3.4 top end. There some machining work with a couple ports you have to do.
I have heard other people have done this with out swapping over the 3.4 head instead they get another ECU which piggy backs of the original ecu via wiring loom made up specifically for this purpose and it controls the variocam plus
names like THEHOLYOAK or something rings a bell! they say he has done this conversion before I am trying to contact him see if he is still active on this forum.
I know it can be done but it is not easy or straightforward. I am going to try to help my friend in this procedure as I he is already deep in to the point of no return I guess lol!
Close. I think you were thinking about "tholyoak" on Renntech.org
I searched briefly and saw a lot his posts on this topic. I didn't see a step-by-step diy post though. His posts should help a lot though.
