Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Then, just leave options one and two as they are and lump both the $9 and the $30 switches together in this poll, which would basically compare replacing just the switch to replacing the entire assembly.

Replace entire ignition assembly since i am incredibly gullible

My Indy talked me into replacing the entire ignition assembly since I am incredibly gullible.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What is the difference between the $30 in the first two? You are lumping the $9 one with it. What is the difference between the 4th and 5fh ones? They are both the same.
Yeah, and what if you've had two replacement ignition switches - one that failed and the second one that worked? And what if you had one car with the problem and one has not had the problem (yet)? Maybe leave this one alone and do a stand-alone poll comparing just the $9 switch with the $30 switch for failure rates. Then, just leave options one and two as they are and lump both the $9 and the $30 switches together in this poll, which would basically compare replacing just the switch to replacing the entire assembly.
I think you need to delete the whole thing and start over. I need to vote for using the $9 part and having it fail quickly and now will take a drastic measure and replace it with the $30 part and see how it goes.
I tried just replacing just the switch on my 996, but got claustrophobic down there. I don't like being upside down in cramped places.
My Indy talked me into replacing the entire ignition assembly since I am incredibly gullible.
Sorry you can't find an indie that you can trust. I guess throwing generic Chinese $9.00 parts at you car every few months does make more sense than just fixing the car.
My boxster 986 which I bought new never had ignition switch problems, on the other hand my 996tt did have two issues related to the switch at 49k miles. The car would not always start and the battery would lose charge quickly, both problems were alleviated when I replaced the switch. I went to VW and paid $35 for the switch. Two years in it still works great. I also replaced the two clutch switchs and red light switch. I get carried away when making repairs.
Ignition switch failed at 98K+ miles...about two months ago....bought this one from amazon...been working fine ever since...
